MDM, I just removed some material from the front ( bullet tip ) area of the mag. The accurate .223 mag has a exterior metal housing with a full size interior plastic sleeve. The mags come apart by removing the floor plate and pulling out the plastic sleeve , then just remove some material in the...
I use: 25.2 gr. Varget Lapua case wolf small rifle magnum primers 80 gr. hornady amax 2.520 coal ( .015 jam into the lands ) shoots sub half moa out of my Rem. 700 with a 20.5" Rock Creek 1/8 twist. Avg. velocity 2825 fps.
I agree with waveslayer on the Rock River Arms Varmint. Heavy barrel for sustained Pdog slaying. !/8 twist with a Wylde chamber for the 69 gr. and up. Very accurate , and reasonably priced ( 700.00 msrp on their website )for the complete upper. And you could probably find one for less. I had...
I have a YHM Phantom 5.56 stainless suppressor that uses the QD mount , and would like to have it converted to direct thread. Just wondering if this is possible or anyone knows of YHM doing this. I plan on giving them a call tomorrow , but was just interested if anyone here had a similar...
Yeah I read that 100 - 120 was ideal I just cant find it locally , except in 5 gal for $110.00. I only am doing 1 rifle and don't need that much. Thanks for the reply.
I want to remove the Cerakote finish from my barreled action. Would 70 grit aluminum oxide be ok for this? I will be refinishing with DuraBake in a different color. Thanks Bob
I found the thread in case anyone else is interested in the mod. Currently on page 159 of gunsmithing section. Post origin 2/8/2008 Last post 12/9/2010 Bob
Ive been searching for a thread that is here in regards to modifying a 308 AI mag. for shooting .223. None of the links work , they put me back on the SH homepage. I have several 5 rd. AI 308 mags that I'm not using and would like to modify them. Any useful link or info would be appreciated...
JBM puts me at 9.6 mils @ 1000 with a velocity of 2815. I was going to have it re- chambered in .223 AI , but it shoots good enough for me not to want to mess with it. I have a Bartlein HV 1 / 7.7 twist blank that will be chambered in .223 AI when the rifle needs it.
Boiler, Velocity was a guesstimate of 2820. I was using 77 SMK with 24.7 gr. of Varget and chronographed them at 2860 av. , but it was 70 - 75 degrees then.
I took my .223 out to 1000 yd. today testing some Hornady 80 gr. AMAX's . Specs: Rem. 700 Rock Creek 1/8 at 20" heavy varmint? ( .930 dia. @ muzzle) HS Precision pst-025 stock Nightforce ATACR 5-25 Conditions. 29 degrees F 2000 ASL + / - Wind was head on shooting due west , shifting...
