Intermediate ranges or stretching the legs of a scout rifle

+1 Looking through history, warfare almost always rewards the opponent that can engage from farther away. The long bow, the rifle, missiles, IEDs, etc. Anyone owning firearms for use in any type of combat role needs to consider the best odds of victory are closely correlated to the farther...

Intermediate ranges or stretching the legs of a scout rifle

A long range precision course wouldn't negate the effectiveness of a scout rifle but would definitely identify what works and what doesn't with it. There is no doubt it might be frustrating because it's not set up the same but setting expectations for a course would limit that. Taylor and...

Thinking out loud, a reticle for the OEM crew

As I was shooting that chaos drill last weekend, I was thinking to myself about this thread and how this reticle seemed perfect. Was that reticle picked up by any manufacturers? If not, what is the closest alternative?

Sniper’s Hide Cup SHC Ruminations #1

As a new shooter, I don't know what I don't know. For me, I am concerned with making the initial equipment purchases just to get into the sport. I don't have much money so I have a single general purpose rifle that I can use for hunting and getting into this sport. I am trying to balance so many...

    Bipod Features Explained

Mostly static range shooting to learn the craft. Maybe try a competition at some point but I'm not concerned with having competition solutions at the expense of the former. Do you have an example of a scenario that some feature was good/bad or could have made something better/worse? I keep...

    Bipod Features Explained

Being new to precision shooting, I suffer from not knowing what I don't know about bipods. I've read a bunch of threads but they often contain recommendations for brands/models but I would like to know more about the WHY for any of these. What are the benefits of different bipod features? $3-600...

    What is Retro in Shooting

Knowing the article is already written - remember when you used to be happy with your performance compared to your own personal performance and not when we were so aware of others and keeping up with the Jones for equipment, skills, performance? I used to really like shooting until I knew how...

    Rifle Scopes Variable Power Factors

If a fixed power optic is ok for a lot of things, is a more narrow magnification range also just fine. Using 10 or 12x as a starting point, does a 6x range really offer much more than a 3x range for the majority of shooting 3x: 6-18 4x: 5-20 5x: 4-20 6x: 3-18 It seems that optics are regularly...

    Night Vision SHTF rifle

Only -1.0 which has improved to -0.5. I don't wear my contacts unless it's a bad day. I could get the reflex to work on those bad days but I had to really focus on the target instead of the sight, which is the idea of that aiming principal but I didn't like it as much as a prism.

    Night Vision SHTF rifle

I never had a problem with my ACOG but did on a Trijicon Reflex. Everyone is making a 1x and 3x prism optic these days for a good reason
