USMC M40A1 Return Stock Case Study (The Progression of McMillian Stocks)

I bet you are right. Looking at it again, I think you nailed it. E6378916 was a serial. I can double check when I get home when it was built. But it was a rifle that shows in the 2000 inventory log for Sniper School.

USMC M40A1 Return Stock Case Study (The Progression of McMillian Stocks)

I don't know what is going on with this one. I don't have a 9168. I have a 9568. What is the story on it? Did it come directly from McMillian in the return stocks? If it is from PWS, I almost wonder if was built after the M40A1 program was over?

    M40a1 build guide

I asked Chandler about these scopes years back and what he told me is they got them in, and they did not hold zero, so they sent them back into Redfield. He said a few of the guys at PWS kept a couple, including him, but all the rest went back. When I asked him if they were marked, he told me...

    M40a1 build guide

If the US Property marking is legit, and that is sort of a big if. But if it was real it would likely to be to another branch than the Marines.

    USMC Unertl 8X

The only thing I would say if I was trying to decide between the two, what is your budget? I think it would be a lot more money to build a M70 than a M1903. But it depends on how correct you want to go as well. If you wanted to approach it from a history aspect, the M70 was likely only used...

    USMC Unertl 8X

I don't run it. It's actually a guy name Tim Plowman who does. He just has a lot of my pictures and research posted on there. As far as my vote Jeremy, I would have both. :)

    U.S. Restoration on M-40 Receiver

This is the one above after I parkerized it, painted it, and then aged and wore the paint. This was actually the first Sniper clone I ever put together. Which to be honest I was really happy how it turned out.

    U.S. Restoration on M-40 Receiver

Oh I'm tracking now. Yeah I do have all the measurements of the stamps. When I went to the Marine Museum, they had several unissued 1966 M40's in their vault so I documented them. I took calipers with me to measure everything and then I also took rubbings of them so if I ever encountered a...

    U.S. Restoration on M-40 Receiver

Yes. But the guy who has it doesn't want it to be known who has it. Maybe in the future he will. But right now that isnt an option. But yes he has an original one from Remington.

    U.S. Restoration on M-40 Receiver

I found a local gunsmith who did laser engravings and I provided all the measurements and this is what we came up. The only catch, he accidentally didn't save the file. :( So it's gone. If we did it again, we would unfortunately be starting from scratch. This pic was right after it was...

    M1917 vs M1903

The name on them sort of changed over the years. You are absolutely correct that they used the T name. They also at times called them an international match, a Free High Pressure rifle, a nickname of the "Free" rifles, and even just the standard heavy barrel M1903. There were a couple other...
