    USMCSGT0331 newbies guide to building a M40

It does. I pull all metal off the stock and then put a coat on it and let it sit for about 20 minutes. Then wipe off any excess. It works great and I do this to every wood stocked rifle I own. Even extremely expensive stocks. Just make sure all metal is removed or otherwise it sort of...

    USMCSGT0331 newbies guide to building a M40

I personally wipe mine down with Boiled Linseed Oil every few years. I've always had good luck with it.

    Remington 1903a1 USMC Sniper clone

I track all the known real USMC Unertl Snipers. That website you posted is the research Tim and I conducted together. The pics are mostly of my Rifle and Tim's. As far as buttplates. Almost every legit rifle has what been nicknamed the "Coarse NM" buttplate. Thought that technically is not...

Winchester Model 70: Need proof that the is was official used by army/police before '66.

I mean I have purchase orders by the Marines for Model 70's in sporter configuration, target configuration, etc. I have counts of them on the Marine rifle teams used in competition. 1930's to 1940's. Would that work?

Consecutive serial number pair of USMC 1903-A1's

I honestly have no clue what that marking is. I don't think there is any chance it's Marine. I almost honestly wonder if it's something foreign? I've seen some really weird markings such as this that had a foreign origin.

Consecutive serial number pair of USMC 1903-A1's

Btw it was pretty common in the 50's/60's guys would engrave their DL# or SS# on a firearm. A lot of the gun magazines of the day actually recommended it just in case they were stolen. I do know of one legit USMC 1903A1 Unertl that has a DL# engraved on it on the rear sight base.

Consecutive serial number pair of USMC 1903-A1's

When a legit 1903A1 Unertl Sniper pops up the guys with deep pockets come out. lol So they usually sell pretty for a decent chunk. 99% of them never hit the public, they are usually traded among the top collectors. Is there any chance you took any pics of these? I just always advise to...

Redfield 1903A? Scope Mount. Legit or Repro?

Here are a few of the things that don't look right to me. It might be the pics but it looks like it has a Step in the side. All I have ever seen are completely flat. I've never seen one with a step. Also in that pocket, the machining is so rough in there. It seems in several spots the...

Redfield 1903A? Scope Mount. Legit or Repro?

The more I look at this mount, the more I really am not sure if it is real. A lot of the lines and angles just don't look right to me. Also it's missing one very big trait of a real mount. They actually staked the left screw. I put a blue arrow to the staking. Every real A4 I have seen...

Redfield 1903A? Scope Mount. Legit or Repro?

Almost all 03A4's encountered today have went thru some form of rebuild. So knowing exactly any variations that were in WWII is really hard to say, as rifles have been reworked or a lot have been sporterized and restored. I personally have never seen an A4 mount that did not have the Redfield...

    Unertl MST 100 on Gunbroker

The bidders always hope it will go under the radar and get a good deal. :) I was watching it. If it went for the right price I would have bid.

Marine Team Rifle returns to Camp Perry 96 yrs later

So I finally got a chance to travel across the country to go thru Col Cutt's personal records and I found out some more history on this rifle. Col Cutt's installed the Compensator on the barrel of my Receiver with the intent for GySgt Morris Fisher to use it at the 1927 Wimbledon Cup at Camp...

New McMillan HTG M40A1 smear stocks!!!

On Monday I had a private tour of the museum's holdings and Random Guy is 100% right. They had a handful of M40A1's and there were definite variations in them. After seeing those rifles I would not in anyway get out a set of calipers for a barrel. There were some considerable differences...

    Van Orden Winchester M-70 's

Random Guy is right, I don't have any doubt this is just a match rifle from the late 50's. I found the docs for Army Ordnance where they ordered several hundred Model 70's in the mid to late 50's. These are the US Property ones you see the CMP sell in the 300/400k serial range...

2024 CMP Games 1954-1976 Vintage Sniper Rules

For the Marines all evidence points to only pre 64 Model 70s. But for the Army this was not the case for the Vietnam War. Granted there was only a little over 100 total model 70 snipers serving in both branches in Vietnam, but still... The CMP is not correct on this.

    M40 New Manufacture Stock

I did buy one a while back mostly because I was curious how close they were to an original. With enough work you can actually get them decently close. The biggest problem was the front nose on the repo is much thicker and you have to sand off a substantial amount to make it more correct to...

    I built original m40

Smiley it is an honor to meet you! So you worked at the Remington Custom shop in the 60's? One Question I would have is this, did you have any understanding of who you were actually building the M40's for? What I mean by this is, were you building M40's for other organizations besides the...
