On top of the rail, it says "Prague OK". That's where I saw actions being made (and rifles built) before the operation moved to Arizona (now part of SAC). The OK location on Moccasin Trail Road was roughly between the towns of Prague, OK and Shawnee, OK. Nice rife.

Nice. I like the pre-64 and pre-war Model 70s. If it was made in 1949, think that would be a transition model, the rear tang would be different than the actions built a year or two later. The transition action has the same rear tang as a pre-war action, IIRC.
Hate to hear about this if you got the "starter kit" check and see if you used one of the solvents instead of the oil the time where you smelled an ammonia smell seems suspicious IMO I went to their "site", looked for and then searched for Material Safety Data Sheet for their stuff, nada...
Have 20" barrel Winchester Model 70 Carbine. Good to carry and hunt with. (My Dad had a Model 70 Pre-War that I used several times when in high school) Does not shoot well with bullets lighter than ~168, so I use heavier bullets, 175gr and up in this one.
