300wsm fan boy. First time I hit a mile was with a 300wsm shooting the same rifle and load I shot an elk a couple weeks later with at a bit over 500.....with the old melty tipped 208gr Amax.
I usually double up with plugs and muffs on the range even when shooting suppressed. Suppressed 22 and hunting suppressed is about the only time I won't have ear pro on. I had a 9mm AR carbine go off out a battery when I was shooting suppressed and didn't have ear pro on it was really painful...
I ordered them on Saturday but didn't want to post anything until they actually processed my order. I wasnt sure it went through, for whatever reason I have issues with their website. I have been debating between the 169smks and the SwissP 168 that Raven Rock has for awhile. Still might order...
There is a Winchester highwall at the local gun shop in 38-55 serial number is from 1900 and its a New Haven barrel. Also considering a C Sharps highwall. I have a bunch of muzzleloaders and don't mind cleaning just part of it. I definitely need to budget more time when I get black powder out.
I'm a big fan of 300wsm in general. Been a fanboy for several years and have killed several elk with it. I have also killed elk with a 6.8spc, not at the same distance mind you but still. Factory ammo wise I'd look at the 6.5 PRC. I have killed a number of things at decent distance including...
There are a couple C Sharps on GunBroker that I have been watching. While I really do like the 1874 but the 1885 Highwall is such a great looking rifle I'd like to add one to my collection. 45-70 is pretty practical in general Id still like to play with the smaller calibers also. I'm...
While it's not old it's a lot of fun and is becoming a new thing to learn. My dad gave me his Pedersoli 1874 45-70 earlier this year. We haven't shot black powder in it ever just smokeless. After playing with this it has me looking at a 1900s built Winchester highwall in 38-55 that's here in...
Smokeless muzzleloader shot a good sized cow elk this morning at 340(ish) yards. I got a range than she moved up hill while I was dialing. One shot and she fell over before the echo was done. Same 300gr fury bullet at 2650fps as the deer and antelope earlier in the year. Tagged out for the year.
It's a PVA smokeless muzzleloader prefit on a Bighorn Origin with their shockwave brake. Thing is a hammer and I'm not even standing on it. 308 ballistics, crazy energy, and it recoils like my 6creed
67 gr of imr4198 with a 300gr Fury bullet. That's as high as I have tested so far. First group at 400 yards was 2" so I went with it for the season. Trajectory is pretty great for hunting though 1" high at 100 is 1" low at 200, 3.5moa at 300, 7moa at 400
Used my smokeless muzzleloader on an antelope buck at 272 yards and a 4 point mule deer at 277 yards. 300gr @ 2650fps seems to knock them down like right now. Also filled one of my elk tags with a 50ish yard offhand head shot from my 260rem. One more elk tag might try and use my smokeless...
Lost my range finder today on an antelope hunt....killed a buck but lost the RF between the shot and getting to the animal, I looked for it for an hour but no luck. Really liked that range finder it was simple and I had the RRS arca mount on it. It was starting to have trouble hitting more...
