    Gunsmithing Win mag chamber question

The chamfer cut he is referring to in behind the belt, just enough of a chamfer to facilitate feeding without scratching brass. I do all my chambers that way, even though I did not cut his chamber. I know a little bit about this situation. I can tell him without question the chamfer will not...

Gunsmithing How much camming is needed?

I wonder if I screw the barrel off my 300 whisper and use this screwed up action for that if it would work. Heck I still do not know if .023 is enough to camming. My whisper has a PTG bolt that Nate tigged the handle on. Might give it a try tomorrow and see.

Uhhh yea that aint it. I did screw the old barrel back on the action just so the bolt forward play was controlled, but no action screws.

How is Nates turn around now. I have dealt with Nate a lot and know he is a good guy, but last time I spoke with him e was swamped. I have seen some of the stuff he has been turning out and suspected he still was what with that backing plate and starting to chamber via CNC.

Gunsmithing How much camming is needed?

I picked up a new SPS last week and finally got around to stripping it down and truing the action. I did not even really clean up the lug abutments and did not have to touch the bolt lugs at all other than lapping. When I got through I realized that the bolt handle pretty far away from the...

    Gunsmithing Machining...can it be self-taught?

I had a couple college courses when I was majoring in vocational education. Got a very small amount of training on the lathe. Ever since those classes I have been intrigued with metal working. After law school I made a little money, and I mean a very little and bought myself a cheap...

    Retumbo vs US869

It is going to depend on your barrel I guess. Just tried some of the old thunderbird 870 which has a burn rate very close to 869 in 338Lm with 300 bergers. There was no love there. Best I could manage was 8 inches of vertical at 800 yards. Thiings worked a bit better with N570.

Gunsmithing Input on what happened to this brass...

Weird. I built myself a 7mm/338LM a few years ago. I was running 95grs of WC872 pushing 180 bergers at light speed. One day I get a call from a buddy wanting to load some varmint rounds. I cannot be there but trust the guy with my life so I give him the code to my shooting house/reloading...

Gunsmithing Open ended request - most accurate 1000yd rifle.

Re: Blank check build - most accurate 1000yd rifle. 338AM is a monster no doubt, but for PDs might be a little much, maybe a 30/338 Lapua improved with 230 OTMs.

Re: C. Connor Tac/Varmint Rig in 22-250 I stopped through Longshot Rifles the other day to drop something off and saw that rifle, the owner will be very happy if it shoots as well as it looks.
