    284 Winchester

I tried the usual powders recommended for 284 and 168 ABLRs, H4831SC and RL23. They ran slower than I hoped or weren't very accurate, so I ended up with H4350. I'm getting 2850 fps out of a 24" barrel and great accuracy, and have taken three elk with it.

    Second guessing a part

    Adjustable.

The most inherently accurate pistol cartridge? Intended picture thread.

No pictures or extensive shooting to back it up, but I'd also think it's a bottleneck case. Just because there is less tolerance stackup, and therefore the bullet *should on average* be more consistently placed in the chamber relative to the lands. Curious what others say.

Getting into reloading- Buy the best press I can afford, or start more slowly?

I'd agree that if time is a high priority, reloading will likely conflict. I'd think about if reloading for all those cartridges is really needed. If you're only looking for increased accuracy, you likely won't see that with 9mm, and perhaps not .223 or 6.5 CM depending on your usage and what...

Question on resizing with SAC die

Hey. I'm not sure what's going on, if it's not lengths I'd look at widths/diameters (neck, shoulders). But on the 0.004" bump for new brass (if that ends up being needed), if you're concerned you could anneal *after* the first sizing and that ought to be addressed. Further resizing can just be...

.277 Fury 16.5” shorty bolt report

Sorry to continue the thread drift, but in case it helps anyone I want to follow up: annealing my cases after forming fixed the issues I was having. Pretty sure the work hardening after forming to 6.5 CM was preventing the last ~0.005" of shoulder set back. After one pass each of 308 and 6.5 CM...

.277 Fury 16.5” shorty bolt report

I can handle being called a moron, especially when paired with good advice. I am new to wildcats, unless you count fireforming 6 BRA, which shouldn't count. Not new to reloading at all. I'll try the Lee lube and 308 die, thanks.

.277 Fury 16.5” shorty bolt report

Welp. I formed about 35 Fury cases down to 6.5 CM without too much issue. However, I found I needed a Small Base die and repeated sizings to get them fitting in a chamber gauge (or my chamber). But just today I started having cases where the brass was spinning separately from the steel base, and...

    Safe recommendation

Agreed that a budget is needed. Disagree that you should skip a safe or use a minimal cabinet until you can get a Fort Knox or whatever. Personally I'd go for a Liberty/Cannon/whatever is available on sale locally. I know you asked for keyed and battery free, but at this price and space...

    Ugly reloading precision primer seater

The ACP has been replaced by the APP. I've heard good things about both but never used them. I do really like the Lee Classic Turret and Six Pack presses though. https://www.titanreloading.com/product/lee-deluxe-app/ Anyway, the Ugly primer looks cool, but I'm perfectly fine with my Frankford...

    Tikka re-barrel for 7prc or 280ai

Either cartridge may run into OAL problems in a Tikka with factory magazines and heavy bullets, BTW. If you're running 3.56" MDT mags or LA AICS mags (with a chassis or aftermarket bottom metal) then you're fine.

    The Goldilocks Hunting Rifle

Middleweight 7mm is the obvious answer. So 280 AI if you want factory ammo availability, 284 Win if you like being a special snowflake. I've got a 9lb Tikka 284 for basically your purposes.
