Rifle Scopes Vortex razor HD gen3 1-10 FFP

The rep at SHOT told me it was using diffractive illumination. Has someone disproven that?

I don't think there's much more to say about it. It dominates its price range as an LPVO, and it has precious few weaknesses. Until we can all go hands-on with the Vudu 1-10x to see if the illumination holds up, it's hard to recommend anything else.

    New Leupold Patrol 6HD 1-6

It looks like street for the Patrol 6HD is gonna be $1250-$1300 with the CDS2, and I presume $1200-ish with the duplex. The Eotech is likely to be $200-$300 more. I know which one I would buy if weight was not an overriding consideration.

    New Leupold Patrol 6HD 1-6

Oh, man, I missed that. That's an immediate deal-breaker if true. I need to twist a little to use a port and the illumination decides to call it a day? Who the heck comes up with something like that? Real-world testing at any match or class would immediately find that problem. I can just see...

    New Leupold Patrol 6HD 1-6

Also, I acknowledge that to some people "low weight plus daylight bright duplex" might very well be precisely what they need. I just don't find it terribly compelling as a non-hunter.

    New Leupold Patrol 6HD 1-6

If you look at the Leupold website for the Patrol 6HD, the duplex reticle is described as "daylight bright" and the CDS reticle is described as "bright". This is rather telling. I assume the brightness is along the lines of the SMRS, Accupower, etc. which is "modestly daylight visible" in bright...

    Sig MSR 1-10

There's always a market for high-end optics. Especially good ones.

    Sig MSR 1-10

It makes me die inside that Sig is wasting their time on cheap Chinese optics rather than bring out the much needed upgrades to the (aging, but quite good) Tango6 and Whiskey5 lines. I know why they're doing it, I'm sure cheap optics outsell the premium stuff at like 20:1, but bragging about...

    Rifle Scopes ACOG 1.5 x24 on a M-4 type AR-15

Everything @st1650 just told you is correct. The good old days of the ACOG being king are long, long over. Strongly recommend just buying an Aimpoint PRO or Duty RDS and keeping it simple (and cheaper).

    Rifle Scopes Vudu 1-10 release

I went back to Eotech's booth on Wednesday morning. Then I looked at my Razor Gen3 this morning (just got home). I would submit that it's not quite as bright, BUT the Eotech is also trying to light up a lot more of the reticle (especially the circle at 1x), and this may impact what they're able...

    Rifle Scopes Vudu 1-10 release

Videos are even worse than Mark1 eyeball for determining reticle brightness, doubly so if they didn't crank it to max for marketing purposes. I agree that waiting for reviews is sensible in general, though. I have to go back into the show last minute to meet with someone, so perhaps I'll see if...

    Rifle Scopes Vudu 1-10 release

Eyebox didn't seem any worse than the Razor Gen3's, but I didn't have much time to play with it. Certainly it didn't seem overly picky at 1x. 10x required more positioning, but so does the Gen3. Don't even ask about FOV, I simply didn't have a place to evaluate it. Ditto for glass quality...

    Rifle Scopes Vudu 1-10 release

Alright, I just got off the SHOT floor. Here's some quick impressions of the 1-10x. First and foremost, my evaluation is that the red reticle appears to be using the diffractive reticle illumination, which I confirmed with a rep on the floor and through my own eyes. I have a Razor Gen3. The way...

    New Aimpoint Duty RDS

I've been slowly trying to get away from Chinese-made optics as well, but some of the hyperbole on this board is crazy. The word I saw from a guy with a T&E copy of the Duty RDS is that it uses the same mounting pattern as the Micro, but sits higher (like, an AP Micro co-witness base would put...

    6-36 is the new 5-27

More options don't hurt, but I gotta say that on my 5-30x, it's pretty rare for me to go all the way to 30x unless I'm past 1000yds - and even then, it's not an "all the time" proposition. I guess I'm saying that I could see some use cases where saving the money would probably make sense, just...
