    The earliest 40X 22RF actions were based on the older M721 CF receivers & straight bolt handle, while the 40XB was based on the early M700 with the swept bolt handle. ETA - I've seen some nice MB repeater conversions done just as you're describing to resemble a M40 rifle.

    New Winchester 52D

    I used one of the original Vianni mounts like Calfed's on my 1st CMP 52D to mount a Weaver T24. The ocular bell on that scope is only 1.5" in diameter, and I got by fine with a pair of Weaver Quad ring lows, which put the 1" scope tube .337" above the mount's rail.
