School me on 223 AICS mags

Over the past 15yrs, I've build myself two 223AI rifles on Rem M700 actions, one on a Howa Mini, and most recently, a Solus. When I first started working with the 223AI, the only mags I was aware of were the poly AI ones, and I wound up buying 6 of them, all of which work fine in the 700s & the...

    Howa 1500 builds **post them**

It's hard for me to understand why Howa hasn't come up with their own aluminum DBM to replace the plastic factory POS. I've been building/shooting the Mini actions for several years - have five of them now, from 20 Tactical, 223AI, 22 Grinch, 6 RAT, to 6.5 Grendel, all with Bartlein or Krieger...

    Questions about Voestalpine/CAT/CGS

All this means very little to me. I wound up buying a CAT NOAH from a trusted SOT for use on my 6 RAT AR, and so far, I've been impressed with the performance. I don't have all night to sit in front of a computer looking for issues & problems that might or might not exist - have enough real-life...

    TriggerTech acquires Hawkins Precision

I wonder if a large part of TT's interest in merging with Hawkins wasn't to get around tariffs and other limits, like the number of triggers a small dealer like myself can order in at one time? Personally, I've got TT Diamonds on several Vudoo & one Rim-X repeaters, as well as on several CF...

Best bang for the buck action in R700 platform?

I've built several rifles for customers on the Origin, and bought one myself when I was wanting to barrel it for a 22 Grinch, which is a wildcat based on the Grendel case necked down & blown out. I was familiar with Zermatt's quality & CS after building myself & several customers rifles on their...

Do I need a 700 in my arsenal.

I've trued a bunch of 700s over the past 20yrs - quite a few for myself, the rest for customers. But when custom clone actions became available for under $900, my attitude changed. The last bare 700 action I bought sat in the safe for about 3yrs, and by the time I'd made up my mind what I was...

Lithgow LA101 with a few mods.

I'd hate to think that I'd seen this Cooper and forgotten it, but it's simply stunning, regardless whether I've seen it before or not.

    Winchester 52C Bullgun

That appears to be factory checkering...or at least the same pattern as seen in the Houze book. Don't see many/any rifles like yours out here in western Kansas. The only Win 52s I ever saw out here belonged to a group of smallbore shooters in the Goodland area that had an indoor league they shot...

    Winchester 52C Bullgun

Darn - I was hoping to see that bull barrel C in the factory stock. But since you didn't get it posted before selling it, I'll put a photo of my 52C hvy bbl target up. Someone put nice checkering on the pistol grip, and then a nice job of refinishing the stock. Seems somewhat easier to find nice...

Lithgow LA101 with a few mods.

That stock reminds me of a nearly identical one that Joel made for me a dozen or so years ago...only mine was on Royal Jacaranda.

    DeLane Development Group Rimfire Ventures

When Paul sent out the later versions of the extractor & pusher after I started having problems with my early Gen 1 rifle, he also sent me a few spare plungers & springs for them, along with instructions on how much to shorten the plunger springs. Installing the newer parts - including the...

Thoughts on the Aero Precision SOLUS ?

Forgot to address the question about cleaning rod guide - over the years, when building rifles on slightly oddball actions (BAT 3L, Howa Mini, etc) I usually make my own rod guides, as I keep a small supply of aluminum tubing & delrin rod on hand so I can make a guide that fits. Been too lazy to...

Thoughts on the Aero Precision SOLUS ?

I've done a little bit of shooting with the Bartlein gain twist (1-8 to 1-6.5) bbl that I chambered for 223AI since my last post. Have had unusually heavy rains for a few weeks on end, so too muddy to even make it to my 600-1000yd range in our pasture. But the few times that I was able to shoot...

    Look what Maggot just found.

I'd always wanted a Marlin, but had never bought one. Several months ago, while being dazzled by a bunch of used Sako bolt rifles a semi-local gun shop has been importing from Finland, I found a pretty nice Winchester 9422 XTR - but the first thing I noticed was the muzzle threaded 1/2-20 - very...

    DeLane Development Group Rimfire Ventures

Mike, I've stayed in touch with you & Jonathan Elrod since several of us started shooting our converted 40X repeaters, though I'm the only one of our group of three who has bought into V22 actions. Both you & Jon have been encouraging & supportive, so it's been a pleasure to be able to converse...

    Anyone Shooting a 40x?

The earliest 40X 22RF actions were based on the older M721 CF receivers & straight bolt handle, while the 40XB was based on the early M700 with the swept bolt handle. ETA - I've seen some nice MB repeater conversions done just as you're describing to resemble a M40 rifle.

Is my custom 457 Barrel a dud?

As far as Eley vs SK/Lapua goes, I've had several lots of Eley Match that shot quite a bit better at 200yds than any of the best lots of Lapua Center-X that I've got, out of Vudoo repeaters. I read somewhere about Vudoo sending out orange magazine followers that were supposed to work better when...

Is my custom 457 Barrel a dud?

You sent just a barrel in to Whidden? So you're saying that they put it in their action? Clarify that for us... I've always set headspace on my custom barrels at .043", whether I'm shooting one that I chambered with an EPS, Win 52D Match, or Nevius reamer, whether it's a Vudoo, Rem 40XB, CZ...

    Anyone Shooting a 40x?

While it's true that Mike Bush designed the repeater conversion for the 40X/XB and the V22 repeater action, to the best of my knowledge, Vudoo Gun Works never offered a repeater conversion for the Remington actions. Mike put the CAD/CAM drawings out there for the conversion to several gunsmiths...

    Howa 1500 builds **post them**

I never saw one advertised back when I started building rifles on the Mini action, so I bought some 6061 T6 aluminum tube & white delrin rod, and a brass bolt, set stuff up in the 3-jaw on my lathe, and turned one out for myself. More or less copied the commercial ones I've seen for Rem 700...
