Range Report Applied Ballistics Kestrel; Pro staff support thread

I have the Kestrel 4500 with Applied Ballistics and so far have been very pleased with the device and the results I am getting from it. I am trying to understand the ballistics a bit better. Thought experiment: If I were to zero my rifle at a distance of say 500 yards wouldn't the direction...

Not sure what you consider close, but best of the west in Liberty Hill is a great range out to 1k. http://http://www.texasshootingrange.com

    Kestrel 4500nv Applied Ballistics?

Looking at getting the 4500 AB BT, but I am wondering how much it matters to get the "NV" version? I have a $45 off coupon for a store that has the non-NV version. I might use this thing at night. What sort of normal backlight does it have, and is it worth 45 bucks to shop somewhere else?

Night Vision Picture of PVS-22/27 on a DTA?

Correct, this is why I am seriously considering the 27, and my only worry is about size. possible that is an unfounded worry. I have not looked into the CNVD LR, but will check it out.

Night Vision Picture of PVS-22/27 on a DTA?

The pvs24 is a similar size range to the pvs22 if I am not mistaken, so this does help a bit. Maybe a good question to ask would be, if there is anyone who has gotten the Pvs-27 that wishes they opted for the pvs22 based on size. My concern is the size of the 27 not justified in the...

Night Vision Picture of PVS-22/27 on a DTA?

Looking for pictures of PVS-22 and PVS-27 mounted on a DTA. A picture being worth a thousand words, it might help me in my decision. Also, if anyone has experience with this setup, I would love to hear that as well.

.338lm A few neck cracks - is this normal?

Yeah, it seems like a lot to me as well. However, I have no reason to think (yet) that I am doing something wrong. So far none of the other 150 pinches of brass have issues. I am just concerned that maybe I am doing something wrong. Any other ideas out there folks? Am I just...

.338lm A few neck cracks - is this normal?

I have been reloading .338 LM for about a year now. I have several batches of 50 rounds (Lapua Brass) that I have been working though. Tonight I was re-sizing my "batch 1" and found a few with neck cracks. Batch 1 has the following reloading stats on it: 1 Full length and 3 Neck Sizes (4 if...

300 SMK, a mile to 2000 yards, good or not?

I am not sure if you were replying to my question, or something else that was posted. But my question was basically how/what are you doing to push a 300gr Scenar that fast? I wouldn't have thought you could get it going significantly faster that 2800fps without some risk over over doing it...

300 SMK, a mile to 2000 yards, good or not?

I am getting great results out to 1k with 300 gr Scenars out of my DTA. Magnetospeed has them running at 2770fps. I am running 92gr of h1000. Just wondering on the thoughts of pushing them faster? I have not tried, as like I said for the range I have access to they are performing great...

Specific Annealing Question -- Can you "over-anneal"

Well, that is what I ended up doing. I think my brass came out nicely. I had some issues really understanding the tempilaq stuff. Even inside the case neck it would burn off at the very end. I am using the 650, so I think I have a margin of error that is ok. The 400 deg stuff never got...

Specific Annealing Question -- Can you "over-anneal"

Cool. I sort of figured this might be the case. I suspect getting into annealing brass is a lot like when one first starts reloading: lots of questions.

Specific Annealing Question -- Can you "over-anneal"

I am purchasing a Bench Source machine, and just reading through the setup instructions and had a question for all you annealers out there. The scenario I am imagining goes something like this: 1) Trying to set up the machine to so ~650 - ~700 degree at the shoulder is achieved 2) Use 650...
