Gunsmithing Smith for cutting, crown, and thread

Should doing it myself be a consideration? I’m cutting the rifle down to make it easier to handle hunting. There’s not enough recoil to make a brake a necessity. Or would the cost of the tools rival the cost of having it done by a good gunsmith?

Gunsmithing Smith for cutting, crown, and thread

I have a 26” criterion 6.5 creedmoor that I want cut down to 18.5”. Want it handier for hunting. Can anyone recommend a good smith in southwest Va/northeast Tn to send it to? Thanks in advance.

    Physical Fitness Deadlifts?

Deadlift can be really hard on lower back if form breaks down. A trap bar is a good alternative that a lot of people feel is safer. I use it at times, especially if I’m feeling tight in my lower back. Robert Oberst (worlds strongest man competitor) caught a lot of flak for saying deadlift had...

    2022 Hunting kill thread

Our season is going well. Doe in bow season, 8 pt with my sons 300blk, and another doe. With some more luck, the freezer will be pretty full.

Hunting & Fishing Pics out of or from your blind or stand.

It’s been a great season so far. Couple in the freezer (1 pretty decent buck for these parts) and getting my kids out in the woods chasing squirrels, deer, turkey, etc.

    Gunsmithing Tight twist rate fade?

We have a lot of heavy for caliber, longer bullets these days that require a faster twist to stabilize. For 190s the 1-10 would be plenty sufficient I would think. As a matter of fact, a lot of the .30 caliber options out there will shoot fine with a 1-10. There are MANY other options for a 300...

    5700 AB Doesn't Match Strelok

Not retarded at all. In my opinion, shoot every hundred yards (to as far as you'll feasibly shoot the rifle) without a ballistic solver and record the actual data. Then get the solver to match actual data. When using strelok or other apps, be careful about the info you input, including gun...

Hunting & Fishing What all have you killed with a 223?

I've killed tons of turkeys with a 223, out to 400 yards. Several deer, beavers, groundhogs, coyotes, rabbits, squirrels, skunks, and crows. Have used anything from 40 grain hollow points to 75/77 grain handloads. To me, a .223 is a must have. Cheap to shoot, and fairly versatile.

    Fastest 75 grain HPBT .556 load out of a 16" M4

Western Powder's load guide says max 5.56 load for TAC and a 75 hpbt is 25.8 grains. Listed velocity of 2994 is for a 24" barrel, but should still be scooting along pretty good from a 16". Other than western powders, Nosler is the only others I know of that publishes 5.56 data, but theirs is...
