KRI, thanks for your reply, my intentions are to cut a total of 6 inches off the tubes somewhere around 3 1/2 to 4 in from the rear and as need off the front to make 24 in . the machine work is no problem ,I have a lathe and reamers/gauges for .308 win. my other question is will they shoot...

    Gunsmithing palma bbl life?

guys, I have several used palma match rifle barrels and wonder what kind of life one has.. these are in .308 and are stainless. two are obermeyer, an one is pacnor, no name on the other. they supposedly have between 1100rds(pacnor) and 3800 reds on the obermeyers. believe they are 1-13 twist...

Palmetto State .308 Fed.175 OK with head stamp of 1974?

another point to consider is that the 7.62X51 FedGMM is not polished ie not bright and shiny as the commercial GMM is. also has the crimped primer as well as a 175 gr smk . wondering if the OP misread the date, instead of 74 it is 14? also to BLM0918, how is it packaged? the 7.62X51 is packaged...

Palmetto State .308 Fed.175 OK with head stamp of 1974?

military ammo is dated with the two digit stamp for year of production hence 74 would be 1974, and 13 is 2013 since 7.62 wasn't in existence in 1913, have some .30-06 dated then. yes M118SB was a full metal jacket with no hollow point. the earlier M118 Match has the same bullet(FMJ) but the...

Palmetto State .308 Fed.175 OK with head stamp of 1974?

I am aware of the 7.62X51 FedGmm 175 gr, however as stated the 74 date would not be the same or equivalent to M118LR, the op as far as I can tell did not say what other markings on the case. the 7.62X51 FedGmm load is marked with a date for year mine is dated 13 and FC headstamp packaged in the...

Palmetto State .308 Fed.175 OK with head stamp of 1974?

I have to agree that 1974 headstamped stuff isn't Fed GMM, as said it could be M118sb with the 173 fmj bt. need the rest of the headstamp to really identify. and any markings on the box. headstamp for the M118SB should have the nato cross date and LC stamp not aware of anyone else making M118SB...

Help me work the bugs out!!!!

Well, cant comment on the magazine issues , but a possible cause of the misfires could be that the bolt handle needs inletting a little deeper in the stock. I had that issue with a wooden bdl stock after putting a sps .308 in it. just a thought.
