Sleuthing Federal Gold Medal .30-'06/168 load

If it helps any I got a bunch of imr4895 early this summer and ended up at 46.6 with 175smk after a round of ocw. It did not perform as well as slower powders have for me.

    heat and accuracy question

My 700 does the same thing in a Tupperware stock and a nice hs precision. I'm going with a new barrel and hoping it gets more accurate and less heat sensitive.

Getting a new barrel, what else to do at the same time?

The guy doing it uses badger lugs. Why is a fancy bolt release better than stock?

Getting a new barrel, what else to do at the same time?

I'm having a new barrel put on a rem 700. The action is going to get trued, barrel installed, and muzzle threaded locally. The reamer is the serengeti 30-06 from ptg and barrel is stainless bartlien. It's going in a hs precision 026 and I plan to bed it myself. Anything else I should do...

    New barrel worth the money?

Prices include barrel, threaded muzzle, and local guy also uses badger recoil lug. GAP was similar price but I'd have to pay shipping and wait 3-4 months.... Looked into the longrifles thing and they were a bit cheaper, but I'd have to buy the barrel(pay shipping on it) then ship it all to...

    New barrel worth the money?

I would love to, but I can't justify a $4k rifle and $3k scope. My question is really about the relative trade off.... Obviously it will get better with a good barrel, but could $900 in ammo(about 1500 rds of the best load I've found) improve my skill enough to get better results than a new...

    New barrel worth the money?

Summary: have pencil barrel rem 700 in a nice stock with decent scope. I can shoot right around 1moa depending on the load. I have ocw'd my heart out and can't get it any better. The group size opens up quickly once the barrel gets hot. I asked here and a few people who seem to have a clue...

Large change in accuracy with barrel temp

Pencil barrel, rounds only in gun a few seconds before firing. Recommendations for a good gunsmith in the Nashville/Huntsville area? Gap says 2-3 months just to true it and put a barrel on. Would prefer somebody who stocks barrels so I don't have to wait on a barrel first, then wait on...

Large change in accuracy with barrel temp

I shot two rounds(one each load), waited a few minutes, repeat. All 20 rounds in about 30 minutes. Not very fast... I've thought about painting the barrel, would probably help in the sun? The matte black finish on the barrel seems like nearly a perfect black body to absorb the sun!

Large change in accuracy with barrel temp

I have noticed a change in accuracy based on shooting in the sun or shade so Today I shot two different loads both in the sun and in the shade while evaluating differences in brass. Loads are all identical except for two different lots of brass. All components from the same containers, same...

Reloading .308 with a Lee classic loader without a powder scale

I used a lee loader and a $20 digital scale from eBay and got very consistent under 1 moa from a $400 dicks special rem 700. The cheap scales maybe not be ultra accurate, but they are generally very repeatable which is what is important. Do ocw with a cheap digital scale and you'll get decent...
