    Doesn't matter how long as long as the bullet bearing surface has a good purchase on the case neck. I think most people go with 1 bullet diameter into the neck as a minimum. The longer you seat it out the more powder you can fit in the case.

    I run 34.0-36.0g of WC844 in a 308 behind a 175g lead bullet for lower recoil plinking. It functions both AR10s just fine. You have to make your own data with these surplus powders. Lot to lot variation in burn rate does exist so each lot should be treated like a new powder. Treat the WC844...

    cut an inch or two off the barrel. . . seriously though, forget about the velocity and find the most accurate load. When you have 'the load' you are looking for then you can make a WAG at the velocity until such time you can shoot through the chrono again. I only chrono loads after I'm finished...
