Re: 280 Ackley Improved reloading w/ Superperformance Looking for a target load using 162gr A-Max at around 3000fps and any good hunting load for antelope, deer or elk. I would like an all around load so I would appreciate anything you are willing to offer and .25MOA is great. Thanks
I am having a rifle built in a 280AI and was wondering if anyone has had good success with Superperformance Powder. It has similar burn rates to RL22 and H4831. I am open to all powders though. Thanks, Ed
Re: 280 Ackley Improved optimal twist rates The 162 A Max is what I plan on shooting primarily as the lightest weight bullet and it is nice to see that a 1:9 twist works well the heavier bullets. My plan for lighter weight bullets and smaller game is to build a 260 remington. Thanks, Ed
Re: 280 Ackley Improved optimal twist rates Sounds like everyone likes the 1:9. Does anyone have experience with Hornaday 162gr Amax or 168gr Bergers. Berger recommends 1:10 for there bullets in this weight? Also does 4 or 5 groove make any difference besides increased volocities and can I go...
Having a barrel built and was wondering what is the best twist rate for 150-175 grain bullets. Popular rates are 1:9 and 1:10 although I want to know who has had good results and with what bullets and volocities? Thanks, Ed
Re: .280 Ackley Improved Feeding Problems In my origional post it was just one blogger from another forum that said there were feeding issues. With that said before embarking on a build I thought I would do a little research with people with some experience with the cartridge. I truely...
Re: .280 Ackley Improved Feeding Problems T, I didn't know Hornady made .280 AI brass, good to know. I did know that nosler makes .280 AI brass. Is there any difference in quality vs. cost? I also heard that the AI brass last longer? Myth or reality? How long of a barrel do you suggest. I was...
I've been looking for a new project and like the .280 AI. Flat shooting near 7mm RM performance with reloads without the recoil. Although I have heard there are feeding issues in most bolt actions! Is this true or is it one persons interpretation of smooth feeding or is it true in certain bolt...
I have been researching the .280 AI and like what I have read so far. Although I read that the .280 AI has trouble feeding in most bolt actions. Is this really a problem or is it one persons issue or a limited issue in certain setups. ED
Re: How do you convert a magnum action to a non magnum how is recoil. i heard it is minimal to moderate. My rifle already weighs 10lbs and that is with a sporter barrel. When I rebarrel it I am going to a heavy varmit barrel which sould add an additional 2lbs. Also how has your barrel life been?
Re: What is wrong with the 6.5mm Rem Mag? do you know what kind of barrel life i should expect from the 6.5 RM? From what I have read it is better than the some others because if the lower powder charges, and 25 degree head angle. From my rudimentary knowledge it shouldn't be a barrel burner...
