Chasing one of these for 35 years!

Great shotgun! my uncle had one of these and shot a lot of ducks, quail and chuckar with it. A rew pheasants too. kept it like the rest of his guns, carried around in a truck alot. Where it got dust 'built' into it. It was gimy but it still worked good! Enjoy that shotgun! (but I inow you...

It's been fun, but it's time for me to move on

Talk about a long time in replying...to this thread... but, had a stroke in Oct, 2024 so I understand about not being on and health issues being more important (family too). Anyhoo, just wanted to say thank you for all you've done here. -sandwarrior

Exactly. Where the 6.5 Creedmoor has an advantage, it can't be used at.

    Vintage Sniper Rifle Picture Thread

Probably the most misunderstood, under-rated and underutilized cartridge of WWII. A classic example of an Army command not understanding what they had to do to win a war instead of blaming the equipment.

    Redfield tombstone 6-18

I recently came into possession of a Redfield 6-18X scope. It has the tombstone ranging reticle and dual crosshairs above the regular crosshair for ranging. I'm wondering how much this scope would run for as I'm going to have to send it in for repair. Edit: Or send it back where it came from.

Yeah, in the energy calculation formula it's the V that gets squared, not the M.

    FBI Sniper Rifles

Somebody posted on here about the Ft. Hood shooter, who used a 5.7. HOOWAOLIE SHIT! Is that thing badass! 52 hits, 13 killed, No one able to continue their attack on the shooter after being hit. Shooter took 6 9mm hits and had to be taken down by unwounded responders. I started working with...

So, did he have anything to say about the 5.7x28 or .22TCM?

    Winchester Model 70 250-3000 SAV

The .250-3000 came about in 1914. The .300 Savage came about in 1920. Similar in design, but the .250 had a lot more taper in the case, and was just a smidge longer. Added: That's a beautiful rifle BTW. Added II: Both the .250 and .300 Savages have a .473 rim (12 mm) as Mausers had. The...

    Vintage Sniper Rifle Picture Thread

My modified variant of an M40. From what I understood, 2nd Recon used the T-10 scopes. I saw pics of them on the M40A1. But. Not the M40. Anyhoo, clone stock from I forgot where, correct buttpad. Action is using the customized bolt made for it, but will change when I get my other 700 action...

    Legit 40x base?

Dude, it's a simple fact that the front ring retention is with friction, not actually clamping. That was one of the biggest reasons so many M40's were unserviceable within two years of them going to VietNam. My experience with them is numerous guns that people would say in our shooting circles...

    Legit 40x base?

As you noted in your original post, it is not an M40 base. At least you had questions about it. I know people want what was original, but those POS bases failed miserably. Original,... yes. Worth a shit.... NO! They fail! how hard is that to fathom?

    Legit 40x base?

AS the invoice says, they are NOT M40 bases. Even though the style looks like it. As an aside I would not use any M40/Redfield bases. Not based on my experience in the military, rather based on my experience as a civilian. Note that I have mentioned in numerous posts about the failures of...

    Legit 40x base?

Correct! But prototypes are not production. ADDED: Even though he also explained, while the M40 and 40X's were built in the same room, across from each other, they very much remained separated.
