safe load for M1903A1 / Unertl Rifle

The standard load at that time was 48.5 gr. of 4895, under a 150 gr. bullet. We didn't have dedicated sniper loads like we do today. Also, 4895 was THE most common powder. They did not differentiate between Hodgdon and DuPont (it was all actually made by DuPont, Hodgdon bought it by the rail...

    Super rare Tula Mts13-1

I gotta ask, what is the purpose of this "not being factory original"? And, why do you need courage to take this to the range. I've taken a lot shittier stuff to the range and have no regrets or apologies to make. They are what they are and they shoot! Nice groups BTW.

So, I hate to ruin a good time. But, thought I’d ask some of you who spent time in a PC-12. This is regarding the N273SM crash near Stagecoach NV. At first report the aircraft took off out of Reno in misty/ freezing/near freezing rain. It then proceeded south then east. At 2114 hrs. it...

    30-06 still relevant?

I can especially believe this as PRC cartridges are used mostly in competition, where handloading is the norm.

I wish I had one of those. I shot with my nephew out to 1930 yds. in NV a ouple weeks ago. Got one hit with my 7mm-08. Scope was S&B 5-25 PM II. H59 reticle,

    I built original m40

I somehow remember that the original "M40" prototype had a five digit serial number, vs. the "200-thousand" serial numbers of the original batch of R700/M40's

The engine in the top video, the V-1650-1 never went into a Mustang. In the lower video, that engine should be a V-1650-7. Even though the the V-1650 -1 didn't go into a Mustang, it did go into a notable WWII aircraft that DID help win WWII, the P-40F and P-40L. Serving in North Africa.

I couldn't remember what those were called. We still had the M67 recoiless rifle. 90mm. Just like a bazooka, but had a bipod in the rear and a monopod in the front. It had an old style low power scope, but our guys could hit pretty well with them. 700-800 on the move and about 1200 static...

    Lets argue about the M24

I'll agree with most of that with the exception of 30-06 being a dead cartridge. Yes, dead in the sense there was no plan for furtherance of the cartridge. But, not dead in the sense that there was still a fair abundance of M1/M72 (and-A2) ammo in use, available for competition. Probably...

    Lets argue about the M24

Agreed, why would the Army issue a non-functional bolt to a weapon that can’t use it? Because, use of that bolt would require a change of barrel also. Not doable in the field. And, per Remington’s contract, not doable by anyone but them. Yes, the plan was to eventually make those actions...

    Lets argue about the M24

Actually, there were problems with the long follower. The cartridges on top tended to work forward and would sometimes 'nose down' in the magazine. Not a catastrophic failure, so the only thing done was, as you said happened, training to check this. Edit: added, My 722 in .222 Rem has a...

First, never saw those anywhere in the Army when I was in '81-'85 Second, what we had for a DM, once in a while, was the standard block that dropped in the carry handle and bolted in through the hole that was in all M16A1 carry handles. You could either attach that shitty little POS (2X-4X)...

Guns I laughed at but now regret not buying

I would say it depends on your outlook on things. I'll agree, as much as I hear it in the gun world, they aren't great "investments". However, if you want something to shoot and take care of, they can at least hold their own. Bottom line is you want to have them. Either they are cool (to...

Not really. Those Bell helicopters are highly overrated. Where UH-1's (204, 205) are true workhorses, the 207 ain't. Robinsons have a lot more lift per pound of helicopter than a 407. And, they're a lot cheaper to operate.

The reason you can tell it's a legit '03-A4 is the ID lettering is down on the side of the front ring, not on top. They were ID'd as 1903-A3, but when the lettering is down, they are a 1903-A4. The scope mounts are quite commonly like that. A Redfield Junior with the dovetail cut for the rear...

I also have to qualify that t he FN-49's that I got to shoot were in pretty good condition. The M1's I shot were regular surplus, some mixed and matched. None of them were 'match' grade of any sort.
