    155 or 185 for 308 to 1k

Everyone likes to say that they can push 175s and 185s over 2700 fps, but how long is your brass gonna last? I can push a 175 SMK to 2800 fps easy, but what good is it if your brass is toast in short order?

    An Apology to Berger Customers

I am not sure what flat-base bullets Berger offers, but I will say that I would want as accurate and as up-to-date BC data on any bullet I buy, flat-base bullets included … because you never know what someone is going to be using the bullets for. I don't think the guy's inquiries are...

    Savage model 10 throat questions

I guess. AMAXs do have a skinny, long profile from ogive to tip. I didn't think it would be that much of a difference.

    Savage model 10 throat questions

Oh. You said 168 SMKs at 2.800" were jammed .005" but 178 AMAXs at 2.800" are .0475" off the lands? Pardon, but that makes no sense.

    Savage model 10 throat questions

Can't you just seat them deeper? Why do you need to pull the bullet to seat it further? My Savage throat is also short in my 10T .308. 175 SMKs I have to seat to COAL of 2.773" to be .020" off the lands. I seat 178 AMAXs to 2.778". And I seat 168 AMAXs to 2.805". I didn't know this when I...

Winchester primers vs. CCI-200 primers as indicator of pressure in 308/7.62

The are soft, undersized (they are often loose in the primer pocket) and they are inconsistent, in my experience. If I had a choice of any primer at a store, Winchesters are the last I would choose. Was that "helpful" enough for your standards?

    "high" standard deviation... why?

Start annealing and making sure neck tension is consistent. Weighing and sorting cases and bullets helps a bit, too. It's my opinion that it's rarely powder charge or quality of primers. Those things are USUALLY up to par.

Unorthodox methods that work for you

I full length size, trim to start length, then full length size again. I do this because you need to size before trimming, obviously … but I am almost sure that when I trim, my Lee trimmer tool is fucking up the case neck and mouth because there is some out of round in my cheap drill which I...

Winchester primers vs. CCI-200 primers as indicator of pressure in 308/7.62

Winchester primers are junk to me. I don't care if everyone in the world has good experiences with them. To me, they are junk.

    Zeroing

Sounds like a good plan to me.

    Zeroing

Depends what you want to do with it. For hunting, I would go with a 50/200 zero. From 0-250 yards, you will never be more than a few inches high or low. If you want to make it a target shooter, then zero at 100. JMO.

FPS variations in factory ammo (Fed 300WM)

Yep. You probably had shitty chrono conditions: one sensor in stronger light than the other, or low battery.

    Headshots Vs Centre Mass

Maybe because inside 300 yards, a solid shot to the sternum is going to have the same effect as a head shot, and there is much less risk of a miss or graze. The reality is that most enemies aren't going to have any armor that will stop a high power rifle round. Chest shot with .308 inside 300 or...

    Damn luck or what?

Calculating bullet drop is easy. Try it on a windy day. And to be honest, if your first shot was a hit, but your second two weren't, then that is kinda proof that it WAS a fluke. Sorry. Just sayin'. Repeatability determines if something was luck or not, and you were NOT able to repeat it.

    IMR 4064--Berger 175gn tactical .308 load help

My pet load is the same for 175 SMK and 178 Amax: 42.2 grains of IMR 4064. I would imagine the Berger would be close or identical. If your best load is 42.0 grains, maybe try 41.8, 42.0 and 42.2 and see which is best. Whichever comes out on top, play with seating depth.
