    Generally speaking, converted A3's will have an E prefix and newly made A5's will have a G prefix. A majority of A5's are converted A3's.

    A 1/2" AR500 plate can stand up to XM855 at 200 yards. It will leave a shallow mark and a nice splash of silver steel.

    Building AR's is an assembly process. Between welding, riveting, finishing, etc., an AK build requires a level of craftsmanship. As mentioned above, it is best to learn from someone else before diving in yourself.

    Did he coat the barrel? I'm wondering if some of the overspray got into the bore or chamber of the barrel. It would explain why it improved over time as the coating was wearing away.

    I don't think a BEAST itself would be an issue so much as the 5-25 magnification range. The 2.5-10 range is more appropriate for an SPR type rifle. You will also have a weight savings to go along with the better FOV.
