Responding to another thread about which dies we prefer made me think about the dies I use and a situation I think is somewhat unique and how I cope with it. Some may cringe to hear it, but it works for me and my loads shoot great. From the factory, I noticed that the decapping/expanding ball...
In my experience, Redding Type S dies have made the difference between my groups being ~1 MOA to consistently being .5 MOA or better, and I attribute 90% of that to consistent neck tension.
I tried my own handloads for the first time today and all I can say is- I think I found my load. I sent my cold bore shot down range and punched a hole much closer to dead center than I expected so I stacked five more on top of it and had a .5" X .46" group sitting on top of my CBS. I just...
My long lost uncle died without kids and I am the closest kin and therefore the heir to Remington. If I just send him 4 shotguns, 6 pistols, and a rifle to help free up the money and pay for the execution of the will it is all mine.
The more I look into this the more I think I may be misunderstanding the term pinking, my brass have been discolored to the point that they are nearly an identical copper color as the bullets I intend to put on them. Other people across the interwebs seem to have ended up with almost pure copper...
Greg, You say you have some pinking, what do you do with the brass that does this? Are they dangerous at this point or do you still shoot them? I had a batch of about 20 Winchester brass that I left in the tumbler over night that turned pink, are these now junk or do I worry? They went through...
I have noticed that Lemi Shine also turns your brass pink if you tumble too long, it would be nice to hear from someone on this as to whether or not it is critically detrimental to your brass.
I just use lemi shine and water with my stainless media, and it works like a champ. I thought I would try to be clever once and add a small slice of Lava bar soap with that good ol' pumice power... doesn't quite work like that. All of the residue stuck to the cases and they were almost as sticky...
Interesting, KST, I never considered the weight of the powder, I always assumed that moisture would cause a more chemical form of degradation. Would desiccation reconstitute improperly stored powder? This is a whole different tangent than what I envisioned when I initially created this thread...
I have often been told to store primers, primed brass, and powder indoors to avoid exposure to humidity. Many of the same people telling me this have their reloading benches in their garage. Now in my experience here on the Texas Coast, objects tend to form condensation rather quickly when you...
Well I'm not a bench rest shooter, I just hunt and occasionally try to tag the steel at long ranges. I am happy with my standard load but I can't help but try all the variables. Speak338 is right, my factory throat could make Linda Lovelace jealous and without a ridiculously long bullet I...
I measured my maximum COAL for my rifle with a 168 SMK and I am 2.350 to the lands, this would make my case .130 longer than my standard load of 2.800 which sits 2.220 at the ogive. That would only leave me with about .15 of the bullet being gripped by the case neck, how would I control runout...
