This doesn't get mentioned often enough. I remember one light tan color (can't recall which one) that I must've needed a half-dozen coats to get coverage. I swear the shit was almost semi-transparent.
I'd be surprised if the receiver could be properly etched (blasting with AlOx as needed) due to the coating. DLC substantially exceeds Rockwell 60 hardness. Without significant etching for the mechanical bond required it'll wear off in short order.
New brass is almost always undersize, at least in my experience.
Too little, or too much headspace is a non-issue for handloaders that can adjust the shoulder datum as needed (within reason, natch).
If you're able to, mike the OD of the thread tenon.
If the OD is within spec (.616-.625 roughly) you can use a die to cut the minor diameter a bit more to fit your device.
Well, WTF do I know...
But seems to me you need to find 1,400 yards somewhere, if you want to be proficient shooting at that range.
Any idiot can dial elevation. Learning wind calls, reading mirage at 1,400 yards you need to BE at 1,400 yards...
I've chambered dozens of McGowen barrels, they're solid mid-tier blanks- but I have had issues with a couple of short-chambered prefits that I'd taken in to complete for customers- one needed to be returned as the tenon OD was substantially over spec and I didn't want to fuck with it to make it...
Noticed they have a "coming soon" for this on their home page.
Didn't know this process has apparently gone beyond R&D.
Not aware of any other major players doing this- have I been asleep?
Smelly or P14? P14's are good candidates for magnum conversions, I considered doing a Lapua build on one but couldn't find a suitable already-butchered action.
Meh...
Another day, another gimmick.
Tensioned/sleeved barrels have been around forever (Straightjacket, and whatever the fuck they were called before that...)
Not anything like CF wrap.
It's a sleeve, titanium in this case (Straightjacket uses aluminum) and the void between the sleeve and the...
I don't like removing and replacing muzzle devices routinely, especially those with fine 28 or 32 thread pitches.
Subject to stretching enough that it'll fuck up the timing when torqued down.
I'll clean the carbon off the brake and crown with shop swabs, and if I run into hard to remove shit...
