Lord Huron - more country than current Nashville?

The band and singer have got sort of a classic rock/pop vibe. They dig up a lot of different influences beyond just those and put a bit of an ethereal, spacey atmosphere over much of it. That's just my impression after viewing some their videos on Youtube. Never heard of them before your posting here, but they're bookmarked now for further investigation.

You should post a link to a song that prompted you to mention them here.

Yeah I'm not really sure where they fit in either but I like some of their songs. They spill into my pandora station for indie folk rock stuff once and a while. I have a couple downloaded, the night we met and meet me in the woods.

Similar but different, I am going to see Shakey Graves this year. One of my favorites. He's from Austin so I expect very left as I am sure all the creative types tend to be.

Also not unique for something from other than Nashville being more country/western:

If don't know that is a side project of the 80's punk band X

@6.5SH kind if nails my impression with the Marty Robbins “balladeer” vibe.

When I first heard down by the river kind of thought it was about a heroin junkie that lost his closest to an OD.

Some of his shit is kind of dark than some picks up with some great guitar action.

Kind of goes along with a buffet of Silversun Pickups and Band of Horses.
