Im having an issue while seating 223 for my PRS gun. Im using redding competition seating die. I originally had the standard seating stem and it was making a big ojive dent. Then tried the VLD long stem and it's still giving a dent but not as bad. It's still avaliable big enough dent to change flight. I don't think redding makes a longer stem for this issue and there's no contact number to call. Any solutions?

Are you compressing a lot of powder? Can be a culprit no matter what stem your using.

Barely. Im using benchmark to get to 3k fps with 24.14gr. But I've tried with no powder and it still dents.

Does the inside of the neck have something to act as a lubricant ( fired carbon deposits, graphite, mica, etc. ) while the bullet is being seated? If the inside of the neck is spotless, it can possibly increase the amount of pressure necessary to seat the bullet, sometimes causing the ring to form from your seating stem.

It does it on virgin and 1st and 2nd firing. I don't use lubricant on the inside of the neck. Im using .002 neck tension as well.

Yes using henderson trimmer set by them and trim every single time I load.

If you wanna get crafty tonight, you could always try chucking the seating stem in a drill, filling it with valve lapping paste and running a bullet up in there at speed. You might be able to reshape the seating stem to better match your bullets. That’s kind of a longshot though…and probably isn’t going to make Redding sympathetic to a replacement request.
