Cheap scopes Leupold mk4hd vs Nightforce SHV?

mk4 6-24 is great optic (for its price) if you can score one at discount in the px. I've never been behind the 18x so have no comment. The reputation of NF is build from the NXS and ATACR models, with the nx8s having some fans as well. Those pricepoints aren't going to be accessible at $1k, but occasionally you will find a mk4 in the PX around there.

The SHV F1 is under rated, but I guess it doesn't have the higher mag and bells and whistles of the newer chinese competition that everyone wants now, it is an older design after all.

I've got a fair bit of time on the SHV F1. The main limitation in my opinion is the FOV. It's quite noticeably narrow. Everything else is really good. The turret clicks are muted but clean. Zero Stop is easy. Mil-XT reticle is a new option so reticle is good. I have the Mil-R which was ok. The SHV won't let you down, but it wont blow you away either.

My only concern about the Mk4HD is the reports of QC issues, but that could just be overstated on forums.

How bad is the field of view on lower power?

Im thinking mk4hd but still not sure. I like both scopes lol

Both are great, but it depends on your needs. The Leupold MK4HD is tough with clear glass, but pricier. The Nightforce SHV offers solid performance, better reticle options, and is more affordable. For target shooting, I’d lean Nightforce
