According to ABC, Trump’s legal team — including White House Counsel David Warrington and Attorney General Pam Bondi — proactively sought clearance from the Department of Defense and the DOJ to ensure the arrangement was above board. Sources familiar with their findings say both departments concluded the plan is “legally permissible.”
Bondi reportedly provided a legal memorandum to the White House last week affirming that the Department of Defense could accept the aircraft as a gift and subsequently transfer it to the Trump Presidential Library Foundation without violating the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution or federal bribery laws.

The move comes as Boeing continues to fumble the $3.9 billion taxpayer-funded contract to deliver two new state-of-the-art planes — a project that was originally supposed to be completed last year.

But due to years of engineering blunders, supplier issues, and what insiders describe as “bureaucratic incompetence,” the aerospace giant has fallen so far behind schedule that it now fears it won’t meet the deadline before Trump finishes his second term.

Same with this 'gift' its not the plane that cost 4billion , its conversion to AF-1 , same or more cost would be involved in using this Qatari plane if its to be used for govermental business let alone for president , it would get torn down to bare metal and interior would end at auction or scrap heap.
Then a multi billion bespoke build with host of top secret juice would commence , so unless US lacks donnor planes for the boeing chop shop this thing will just end up costing shit load of money while also not getting used. Only way this does not cost shit load is if they sell it off.

Its bad enough Trump JR shook down Emiratis for 2 billion investment into Trump ponzi coin ,optics of taking such gifts not good

What the hell happened to boeing, are they all diversity hires now?

    Yes

If you aren't a DEI type you aren't employed by Boeing anymore... (Essentially).
They went all in on DEI and who care about if planes fly or crash, just so long as the right colour or right pronouns are a work.

    Not to mention listening devices?

It'll get swept by whatever goof is still around who didn't take the deferred resignation program for 8 months of free salary in grade. The only govvies left are the ones that couldn't easily obtain a higher paying job in the private sector.

PLUS, could you imagine what it would be like to listen in on Trump? All he does is watch TV and rant about nonsense.

The real sensitive intelligence is- lucky for our adversaries- leaked freely by the unqualified nitwits who were appointed to lead the agencies.

    Communism.

The Soviets knew that they would always have shitty planes if they didnt' get some competition going, so they had the Sukhoi design bureau, Mikoyan-Gurevich, Ilyushin, Irkut, Tupolev, and Yakovlev bureaus all making aircraft for trials.

We used to have multiple sources too- then in 1993 Les Aspin held "The Last Supper" and turned 51 defense contractors into 5.

Now we get all our airplanes from Boeing- and they are the worst airplanes in the world.

Now we get all our software from Microsoft- and it is the worst software in the world.

Now we get (many of) our small arms from SIG- and they are the worst weapons in the world.

    etc... etc...

Take it and blame Boeing for being four years late with the new planes.
With AF-1 i doubt Boeing is sole problem , its a refit of mothballed airframes, with a shit load of custom made secret squirrel components and systems , so might the be usual culprits , typical for Pentagon procurement 4 star generals fucking around and changing specs all the time.

Well the Air Force gets it first. It’ll be swept multiple times. There’s nothing illegal per se but it’s a bad look. We’d be raging if it was Biden.
Just because the Air Force is going to go through it, doesn’t mean something ain’t broke. And software could be lurking somewhere in an important system.
None of those people are our friends. If he takes it, it should be exclusively used by Congress or the press. That way if it falls out of the sky, well “Oopsie”. I wouldn’t step foot on it.

Instead of a 747 from Boeing which is now 60 year old tech (yeah, I know… lots of upgrades over the years…). But still so 1970.

How about Space-X develop an up-to-date SST to replace Concord. So the President can be anywhere in the world in a few hours….

For the first time in modern history we are saying things like “remember when we could get from London to NY in 2 hours? Remember when we had a reusable shuttle to space…

    We need a new SST!

Soooooo.... now you're trying to kill the President?

The Qatari Terrorjet will take Trump (in luxury!) on a fast track right to where he needs to go- right into hiding in one of the Gulf Terror Kingdoms as soon as he's done folding down our institutions, crippling our military, destroying our economy, and lining his pockets.

Well that type of platform is extremely fuel hungry and the logistics of inflight refueling alone makes it a poor decision. Part of the benefit of using the BIGHLY advanced 747-800 is fuel efficiency and loiter time. If he did need to stay airborne for an extended period of time an SST is not the right choice. Ever notice that concord only flew to like 5 places? The logistics of supporting that is crazy. Ever notice the A380 doesn’t go everywhere? Most airports in the world can’t accommodate it.

Air Force One is like a really fancy bus in the sky to transport POTUS to conferences.

The agreements created in these conferences are not honored though, and therefore they are a waste of time.

We have also invented reliable and secure transcontinental telephone lines, email, and teleconferencing since then. It's the reason why you don't see large permanent foreign delegations and diplomatic corps camped out all over in DC year round. Most folks know Watergate from the Nixon scandal, but it was actually like a disco-disco, hookers-and-blow version of EPCOT center before email was invented.

We don't need the current Air Force One, let alone a new one.

It IS VERY INTERESTING, however, to consider what the National Airborne Operations Centers (NAOC), or "Doomsday Plane" should be replaced with, from a tech perspective. That is the one that needs extended loiter time. Currently, the plan is to fly it all around in the sky and say "Please don't shoot me down!" There are other measures taken for protection, obviously.

It would be more interesting to have a SMALL capsule-type replacement for the NAOC that could be placed in geosynchronous orbit in the middle of the United States and defended. That would be very cool.

It is against the FAR'S for any civilian to fly supersonic over any part US land. This is why concord only flew over ocean routes.

Government money is not needed to build supersonic jets. Private funds will build then if Governments remove regulatory impediments to their use.

The odds of a purple haired freak in our current government trying to sabotage Air Force One because OrangeManBad are higher than Qatar sabotage tbh

Didn't they bitch about supersonic flights because of the noise? Especially in england where the concord was always taking off and landing.

They didn't fly supersonic over England. They had to bring the aircraft up to speed to break the sound barrier.
That takes a lot of distance to get to Mach 1. The aircraft was over water by the time that happened.

Same with landing. They don't land supersonic. They need to get down to somewhere around 165kts.

Qatar is the enemy of the US. They are Hamas in suites. They are funders of terrorism and anti US interests all over the world.

We play nice because they let us base shit in their country. A country that would not exist without the US.

They should be eradicated. Like Kuwait, UAE and the others, its a country of slaves. A small rich population with legions of forced migrant workers to do all their dirty work while the rake in Oil money and fund terrorism the world over.

That’s what boom is doing right now. Their test bed sat broke the sound barrier with about half the decibels of a normal shockwave.

The added costs is what killed the Concord. Its a niche market. If it wasn’t they would be used for trans ocean flights. They aren’t any longer. Concord had some of the most efficient engines ever designed, and it’s still used four times as much fuel as a subsonic passenger jet.

I flew Concorde a handful of times back in the late 80’s and early 90’s — both British Air and Air France. The coolest thing about it was flying the Sunrise departure LHR/CDG > NYC then watch the sun rise again after landing.

Can’t do dat inna subsonic airliner.

That depends on your latitude. Go far enough north (or south) and even slower speeds suffice.

Oh yeah? Well I once got a second complimentary bag of peanuts in coach class on a Delta flight...
