Hey guys, I've been running my SRS M2 pretty hard for about a year now in 308 and 6.5 with proof 26" full contour barrels and I've noticed a handful of issues; some ive posted about and not seen anyone else experience, and some are new. Don't get me wrong, I love it for what it does but I'm realizing it may be trying to tell me that it doesn't want to shoot PRS, or any position other than prone without some help.
Just wanted to bring the issues up to see if anyone else is experiencing them and if they've solved them
1) Extracted rounds bounce off my bolt hand and back into chamber (much too frequently to say "I can work around that"). This occured both on my TE bolt which I've since returned and a brand new 308 bolt. I posted about this a while back and came to the conclusion it was the missing bolt buffer they failed to include, but it occurs even with the bolt buffer. I contacted DT and they've never heard of this, so rather than send me a new ejector/extractor on warranty I had to pay for new ones (at this price point you've got to be kidding). I've run my mdt bipods so hard I've wrecked them 3 times and no questions asked get a full set of replacement parts at no cost. P
2) 0.4 mil POI shift (down, from barrel weight) when the rifle is supported at the balance point with heavy barrel. Ie, shooting from a bag on barricade or a tripod. Our work MRAD'S have this issue and it can be infuriating to have to remember that when transitioning from prone to supported positions. This is a huge issue, I'm wondering if anyone would be so kind as to attempt to replicate this with the various barrels you all are running.
To increase stability when evaluating the shift I ran it tripod rear and was consistently 0.4 mil low, so it's not it's not trigger control.
3) Mag/mag catch quality is quite poor. Mag catch doesn't catch mags squarely, wearing just a portion of the recess for the mags, causing mags which are not overly worn to fall to lock up, or, sitting so low so that the bolt must really be forced in order to feed (initially thought excessively fouled chamber, but after thorough cleaning same issue on 2 x 5-round mags). Is this just a me thing or has anyone else run into this.
4) You probably all know this from the QC issues I've seen around the web, but remove your skins and look for missing screws upon purchase. My rifle was missing two!
5) Rear bag support gets awful crowded with a 10rd mag and large hands from any position other than prone. Specifically when trying to quickly get in position. Someone else came up with a clever bag rider earlier in the thread. Im going to try to come up with something that adds less mass to the back of the gun since it's already so rear heavy. Are there any aftermarket options available that I missed?
I'm determined to make this gun run the way I want it to, and I hate to classify it as a "prone" only or not capable of competition, the thing shoots great, it just has quirks I'm working through.
