U.S. Restoration on M-40 Receiver

GA Precision built my M40A1s off 6-digit actions, including the U.S. stamp above the serial numbers. Looks good to me.
They built mine also... got another one in the works for a build but will be on a 40x receiver that is factory clip slotted. Waiting for the barrel to be done around July sometime.

Yes I/we wait for our barrels here as well.

@Frank Green that US stamp seems a bit high to me? I know neatness and uniformity for these markings were not the most consistent back in the day, but aren’t they normally lower or more centered vertically between the serial number and the bottom edge of the scope base?

See one of my GAP stamped M40A1 actions:

I found a local gunsmith who did laser engravings and I provided all the measurements and this is what we came up. The only catch, he accidentally didn't save the file. :( So it's gone. If we did it again, we would unfortunately be starting from scratch.

This pic was right after it was sandblasted and the receiver was still in the white. I then parked it and painted it to match M40A1 parts. I don't have a pic of it done but it turned out really nice.

Top rifle is a legit M40 stamp.

That looks pretty good. I have never been able to find out the size of the letters. Ryan posted the location measurements, but the letter size is a mystery to me.

I’ll have to look for it but didn’t Ryan have a receiver that they had the original roll stamp used on as a give away rifle?
Yes. But the guy who has it doesn't want it to be known who has it. Maybe in the future he will. But right now that isnt an option. But yes he has an original one from Remington.

I was just thinking if you were looking for the US stamp size you could compare it the serial number to give you an idea of what size letters to use. I thought there was a picture on here of it somewhere.

Oh I'm tracking now. Yeah I do have all the measurements of the stamps. When I went to the Marine Museum, they had several unissued 1966 M40's in their vault so I documented them. I took calipers with me to measure everything and then I also took rubbings of them so if I ever encountered a rifle someone said was real, I could put overlays over the stamps to see if the markings were real.

So I mean I have the measurements. It's just I had a guy input all the measurements into a file that could be used for a laser, and that is what he lost.
