I’m buying a substantial Long gun from another member here and it’s getting shipped inside a pelican case. My main question is, is there one shipper better than the other for Shipping a $10,000 rifle with accessories and does anyone know if there’s a difference in shipping cost and insuring that high value from one shipper to another that somebody has used recently . And any other knowledgeable feedback anybody wants to give to make this go smoothly much appreciated.

My personal take.
Every carrier will attempt to fuck you on a firearms claim.
If you don't already, have a separate 2A policy/rider that covers your stuff regardless where it is at.

I don't trust anyone that much, if I'm spending 10K, I'm driving to pick it up.
$10k is out of my trust zone on shipping things or not seeing it in person. Fly in, face to face, check it with airline and fly home. Rent a car and drive it home if you don't trust airlines. They don't lose guns in my experience.
I ship MGs and high dollar thermals usps registered mail. each person that touches it has to sign for it.

I use Collectibles Insurance. They cover ally shipping too even if I am selling stuff until the person who is receiving signs for it.
It's been a good while since I've had to use it, but this was always my choice, for the same reasons given. If it goes missing, the last guy who signed for it is supposedly accountable for it. I will mention that I have observed the service of USPS in general has gone down noticeably since I've shipped a long gun.
I have heard good things about the USPS registered mail service. I have gotten screwed by FedEx two times in the last two years. Once they delivered an open and clearly empty box, to the guy I sold to. Would not honor insurance as I purchased the barrel used and didn’t have a receipt. Just a month ago I sold my saddle hunting equipment and after shipping, the package never arrived. I shipped both overnight too, assuming fewer places to change hands.
I shipped a 125 year old factory prototype rifle made in Danzig for repairs. It is the only known example extant, and I brought it back from Afghanistan. I used registered mail for this.
I will only use USPS registered mail. There is absolute accountability and if it goes missing the exact person whose possession it was in gets put under the question. Thus, things magically don't get lost. Huh, it's not that hard I guess.

Ever hear of the FOPA (Firearms Owners Protection Act) of 1986? You should read up on it a little.
As long as the firearm is in a locked and secured case, including magazines and ammunition, federal law allows you to drive through any state.

Have the seller go to a local FFL dealer, have them ship it to your local FFL dealer and pick it up from there. Probably a $30 to $50 charge from each FFL dealer + shipping. FedEx/UPS only ship/insure firearms shipped from licensed dealer to licensed dealer now (that's my understanding, I'm wrong a lot though). The couple hundred bucks extra is Worth the peace of mind for a 10K gun..
No, do not do this. I have worked at gun shops and have dealt with UPS and FEDEX shipping of firearms through them. It is still fucked. Use USPS registered mail.
Is the best practice for FFL to FFL gun ship go strictly through USPS? I am guessing you can request that and Would you skip the FFL to FFL part? Genuinely interested in your experience with this. Thanks in advance
Getting the FFL involved does literally nothing. People think using an FFL protects them legally or financially somehow. It does not. If your gun gets lots watch how fast they tell you to go fuck yourself. You can just mail to an FFL yourself and skip the steps. Also, I can guarantee you you will pack it better than they usually will.
USPS with insurance. They wont loose it. Once the insurance is over like $500 they put it in a separate area thats locked. Shit always goes missing from UPS and Fedex. USPS employees are feds or contractors trying to become feds. Much less likely to fuck with your shit. Postal inspectors don't fuck around.

You should lookup the new rules for shipping guns without an FFL. Its a pain in the dick. You are better off telling them its not a gun and just shipping to an FFL than declaring. I used to mail a ton of guns via USPS. Its not worth the bullshit anymore. Easier to drop off to my FFL and let her deal with it.

For $10k, two air tags with fresh batteries hidden separately with speakers disabled. If they find one they will think that is the only one.
It is very easy through USPS for long guns. Just say it is going to an FFL and they should pack it right up. Some are ignorant. Just pull up the regs and they comply nicely.
I was more referring to an unlawful transfer without a dealer. I don’t know what states are in play with the OP, but that’s a problem in some places.
I’m not talking about just driving around with a rifle.

If you aren't a FFL UPS and FedEx will not ship a firearm, if they know. They implemented that several years ago. There are some companies, Bud's(?) and now Gun Broker have something worked out where you pay them a fee and ship on their FFL somehow. Haven't used it.
I took a long gun to the PO to ship registered with well over $10K insurance. I was talking with the person at the counter and said it's the safest way to ship, "it's locked up in a special cage every night, signed for, etc, right?". She just laughed. she went to the back and brought out a canvas bag. She said if it didn't fit in the bag it didn't get locked up. No way was it going to fit in the bag. It just gets left on the floor by the cage. And also know if you ship USPS registered, it could take weeks(!!!) to be delivered. And tracking is not reliable on registered.
USPS regs also say an individual cannot ship a pistol or a firearm that is "concealable".
Also, you better check the regs because I think you are required to declare it is a firearm when you ship. And don't expect them to pay any insurance if it is lost/stolen if you don't declare. You will be lucky to collect even if you do declare and the steal it.
If you go private insurance, IE Collectors, be careful what you tell them if you want to get a policy. If you say you want $X00K in insurance to cover when I ship guns I sell and some for my collection, they probably won't write you a policy. Ask me how I know.
Sorry all of if I wasn’t clear, the gun was being shipped from one FFL to another FFL. I just wanted to find out if one carrier was better than the other because then I was going to clarify and ask that I wanted to use that carrier. The update is the FFL that was sending it out only uses UPS. That’s how it went and luckily it all went fine. It arrived so all is good but from what I read on here any other shipments, I’ll be using USPS registered mail. Thanks
