Lo and behold, EO had ONE LH 308 bolt for the AXMC on their website today. I looked at the listing for 5 minutes. I was incredulous. I called them, and they verified they had it. Needless to say, I bought it. I will talk to Fritz tomorrow and send him one of the two 308 bolts for conversion to 300 WM.

I hope Fritz can do it, or I'll have a spare 308 bolt body. LOL

I just unboxed my 300 WSM barrel and bolt for my AT yesterday. Looks top notch!

Just used this new build to get my first cleaned match at 1000 yards f-class match! KS Arms SA3R action, 6.5cm hv Palma 24” barrel with spearhead tuner! Looking to add a bag rider to this bad boy.

Yes. I got the 7 round mag functioning good. Took some dremel and feed lip adjustments to get it to cycle.

Forgot how much those AICS style mags scratch the shit out of brass. I loaded 7 rounds set .020” off the lands with 178 ELDX and messed around until they reliably cycled

For reference this is SAAMI spec chamber and the pics below are my 178’s in dummy rounds where I’ll be loading them

I bought a vld stem for my Redding comp die because it’s grabbing the bullets. So I’ll iron that out

The other thing I noticed is if you work the bolt hard it sometimes kicks past the bolt stop/bolt release block. The factory bolt that came with the gun I could not get it to do it. But this one can. Of course running it faster than I probably would anyways. But something to note

Another note: the standard AW mags are much much smoother to run. This feels like my other R700’s or Savage bolts in comparison to how smooth my AI normally runs. You also give up the ability to load the mag from inside the rifle.

Just food for thought to those moving forward pursuing similar builds

I just want to make sure I understand. None of your observations regarding the smoothness of the action, and none of the required magazine modifications, are due to the reworked bolt body.

The only thing that gets reworked is the bolt face. When you do the conversion on a short action AI you have to run magazines that aren't necessarily designed to work in the chassis. Everyone I've spoken with that has done the conversion on the short action has varying degrees of contact between the magazine feed lips and the bolt. In your case with the long action bolt you should be using the same mags you always have, so you shouldn't see any change.

This would be correct

It’s the magazine. The bolt contacted the feed lips of the magazine which is a center feed double stack style AICS mag. Simply bending the lips out allowed the bolt to clear but the larger casing didn’t have enough room to clear the next round in the magazine when ejected. So it hung up

So the lips had to be ground down a bit so they could be bent in to hold the round lower in the chamber but also clear the center of the bolt body

Not to hijack the pic thread but I figured this may be the best place to ask - those with an AT rifle and Badger IMUNS - are they a direct fit?

I see conflicting info on whether or not they fit only the AW/AE or the AT's as well.

Now that I will have a 300 WM bolt for my MC, what caliber should I choose? I thought I was going to get a 300 WM barrel. I have heard some contrary opinions.

My only constraint is that it is a factory-loaded cartridge. I have a 1,285-yard range with lots of steel targets. Not worried about using it at matches..LOL.

I went with the 300WM for my ASXR and love ringing steel at distance. I haven’t shot a 300PRC yet but I am enjoying the 300WM round so far. I don’t reload yet so the 300WM cartridge was an easier choice for me because I can get it just about anywhere even here in CA.

You’d want AX mags

The AX/ATX mags are stagger feed similar to the AW mags used in the AW/AT rifles with a lip on the front

What you tagged above is AICS mags. Which are what the chassis use. Which are regular centerfeed mags. The AT XC should use the same mags as the AX/ATX

The optimized mag in the link below is designed to feed the more modern cartridges and is what @Roadrace33 is referring to above your post
