Hey guys,
I do have some Acraglas left over and want to bed my Bergara Sierra.

I once made a full bedding with a Tikka T3x CTR in a plastic stock, but the middle part of the bedding (in the magazine area) broke.
My guess was, that the stock twisted in this area, because it is the week spot of the stock.

So, Acraglas being pretty hard and stiff, and the plastic stock of the Bergara being a bit soft on the surface, what should I do?

- Bedding only the recoil lug
- Bedding recoil lug and tang
- Do a full beding job

What would the experienced inhere do?

Please give me infos.
:)

If you don't machine or epoxy in a metal rod to strengthen the forend... you can expect the stock to still flex under pressure (you can easily pinch the stock and barrel together by hand and make them touch).

This may not affect accuracy as much as one might think (but it also can a lot as well, no guarantees). However, your POI is going to shift when you do things like shoot from a bipod, then over a bag... or shoot from a bipod with no load vs loaded. It will be really no different than just shooting with a plastic stock in the first place.

The same twisting of your stock that allowed the bedding to break on your CTR is still going to be in effect here.

So if it were me, I'd really only either 1) not worry about it, or 2) just do the recoil lug.

YMMV, and if you get great results, please update and tag me. I hope it works out for you.

I´m in the process.
You can see the marks on the receiver and the original "pillars", it is very clear that the whole system rides on those two points.
Just waiting for the bedding compound.

And well, the touching surface around the magazine is very narrow, more so on the right than the left side.
Even if I would drill some holes there I guess that small line alongside could break.

Why not do the recoil lug and the tang area, where both system screws do sit?
I´m thinking to dremel down the surface there, so that only the pillars are a bit proud, and dremel the recoil lug hole as well a bit, to get some space there and some more grip.

Why do you only recommend doing the recoil lug, because of the possible twist of the stock?

Yes. Anything short of milling out the forend and placing metal support in there is still going to result in a stock forend that will flex. Really, it is the same with the wrist of the stock too.

The result is that every time you put yourself in a different position, there will be a change in force exerted on your action (and possibly even barrel contact)... causing some degree of change to your POI.

Just doing the lug is a minimum investment in time, and may at least help with more consistent force against it.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't spend your time and money the way you want. I am however saying that this is an endeavor where the greater the effort, the greater the frustration exists. It is just my opinion, and based on after having played with factory 700 stocks many years ago, and why about 20 years ago I made the switch to companies like McMillan and Manners.
