A question of "cash"?

Doubling down on my previous post tonight about "manly" things-

I'm finishing up on applying leather conditioner to my "fine leather goods" & one of which is my wallet in which I took everything out off prior to applying the leather conditioner... A handful of credit cards, insurance cards, and membership cards to places like the AL & VFW, my total amount of actual cash was a whopping $6. That's one $5 & $1 bill & that's all I had.

This is a bit "wild" to me because 20 years ago I would have felt absolutely naked if I had anything less than $200 cash in my wallet. $200 now is worth significantly less than it was 20 years ago and $6 wasn't much money even then either. But I really don't use cash these days...

Anywho- I'll have to hit the ATM or bank and replenish my cash reserves but the question posed is whether anyone else is surprised with how little cash they carry/use regularly as compared to what they used to.

Every 6 weeks or so I tap my bank for 1000.00 I never let my pocket carry get below 200.00 . My credit card usually gets the online buying duty while the checkbook gets the check in the mail duty [which slowly I am losing to pay on line sadly] . 72 year old fudd that still likes the power of cash

Just local, I keep cash on me at all times, but pay for most everything with a check. The cash is just in case of power outages ect.(We still had counter checks until about 1995 here) When I travel past 24hr walk home distance, I carry way more cash just in case. I've seen power or computer outages here that turned into none local people going to jail, because they thought plastic would always their savor.

Having cash is part of life. I cannot count the number of times I've heard that the computer is down and cards don't work.

That being said, this world is now populated by assholes who cannot do basic math on a 3rd grade level. Good luck getting change.

Well, you landed in the wrong place...

I have $3k in my wallet right now, but only because I'm going to pick up a used motor for one of my trucks. Apparently 330k is the time where the roller lifters stop rolling.
Got the yard down $500 by offering cash.

But until I hit the bank Friday it was exactly $0 in cash.

I've never carried a lot of cash, and it's just getting worse. It doesn't help that all the banks I use don't exist in my state and require a 100+ miles of driving to get to them. However, even when I did carry cash more regularly, it usually wasn't more than $100-200, unless I was planning to buy something specifically with cash.

carrying > $200 is a prob because getting change for a $50 bill can be a problem. looks to me like a lot of the "poor" use cards and are doing deficit spending like the US gov. see them using 2 or more cards same purchase at times.
i am trying to go to all cash but filling up requires a 20m drive so not real consistent. when/if the dig currency gets forced things will be chaotic. but sheeple are being programed to accept that.

Cash cannot be easily tracked, monitored, or denied.
Plus, studies have shown people spend more when just plopping down a piece of plastic.
Although I have not paid one cent of credit card interest in several decades.

I NEVER paid interest always pay in full when the CC bill comes in the mail.

Banks have spent considerable effort in getting folks to use CCs.
It isn't because they are good for the average user.

I get liking cash as it easy to use and keep track of and is hard to trace, but why are you saddened by using online banking in place of checks? It's faster, easier, and safer.

I keep at least $1000 in the safe and a few hundred in my wallet. I use credit cards and probably do spend more than if I paid cash…oh well. I use a Costco card the most and get $800 or more back at the end of the year which helps.
Sometimes I will buy with cash when making a deal on large purchases. I always thought businesses didn’t want credit cards used, but many won’t take a check and prefer a card. I’ve offered a check, but a credit card is easier and per them cheaper than fooling with checks. Almost all of my monthly bills are auto pay. I do pay credit cards through my banks online payment system since I want to review before paying.

They charge businesses processing fees, ie they makes $$ when you use a card.

Some people have started passing that on to customers.

My dentist, local gas station. Its cheaper to use cash.
