So what sort of insurance would you need for when one of the pins breaks and sends the flap into the neck of the guy next to you?
I think the speed brake flaps might reduce function, not increase it.
At least until the blow off or get so dirty they don't move anymore.
I've grown to really hate the over use and abuse of that expression.
It's a solution to a problem. The problem is "What can I sell to make money?"

Quinetiq is a pretty smart bunch of engineers…
I can see all kinds of ‘issues’ with fielding such a device.
But it probably works as intended.
Lots of early suppressor designs included loads of moving parts to damp out shockwaves and slow down gasses. Just because they are unwieldy and goofy looking does not mean they are ineffective!!
