Lilja 1.00" X 21" CZ 457 22LR barrel Question

All CZ barrels from Lilja come with barrel shims. The 1.00 diameter will require some barrel channel work...if you didn't order it yet the 21x.900 fits a varmint or mtr stock without modification.

FYI AREA 419s barrels are meant to install with no shims. They also have a different chamber. They are made by Liljia to Area 419 specs. That might be a good option as well if you are just wanting accuracy and not weight for say PRS

Just placed order for the 1.00" X 21" Lilja 22LR. Any suggestions on what to use to relieve the CZ 457 Varmint stock with? I have some sand paper. Is a socket good to do the sanding with? I free floated my Weatherby Vanguard a while back Seems I remember using a socket for that. I guess I need to seal it after sanding? Thanks! :)

Saw this on Lilja site. ( The receiver stock screws are a T-27 Torx Head ) the action screws on my stock are T25 Torx? I think they are talking about thr barrel screws I misread.

There’s the right way and the way I would do it. I would use a socket and sand paper

A socket or proper size wooden dowel wrapped with sandpaper will do very nicely, sealing or 2 coats of an outdoor spray paint or primer will suffice. Digital caliper is tough to hold squarely against the action face or barrel tenon which can result in a .002 to .005 error. Google Igage, a measuring tool company, they make a cheap T square adapter to attach to the calipers which will give you the proper measurement. Headspace you can vary depending an ammo type. Exclusively Eley you can try .039, Lapua or SK .042. FWIW I've experimented with a number of different barrels and settled on .042...I can reliably feed, extract any brand, and haven't seen a loss of accuracy or increased ES or SD from Eley running the increased headspace. Take your time and have fun.

I've been reading up on failure to extract live rounds and in some cases, also failure to extract fired cases. Anyone have this specific barrel? Also have you had the mentioned problems? In this article, it states no guarantee to extract live rounds. I'm assuming, I'll be stuck with it now anyway. That's why I asked if anyone else had this exact same barrel. Thanks! Any suggestions on a depth gauge that's not real expensive but, usable for this job? I've got a good Mitutoyo Digital caliper but, I don't know if it would work for this or not?
Check out whidden gun works I believe it is. I paid the ridiculous price for a headspace gauge to Lilja and found a set for less than half price at whidden.

A you tube showed a guy measuring the action depth to bolt recess with the bolt guide out. Is that the best way?
That's one way of determining what your headspace actually is. The best way to set headspace is with a go gauge. I set mine up so that the bolt closes as it should on a .043 gauge. This is a good middle of the road headspace and works really well with SK ammo.

Is my headspace actually .043? Don't know, don't care. Used .043 as a gauge because it is a good setting. When setting up my barrel, I got to where I felt some resistance when closing the bolt on the gauge, then added another .001 of shim.

I have a 21 Lilja on one of my rifles for years, never once had extraction issues be it fired or live round. Lilja like many have there own proprietary chamber reamer, possibly they modified the reamer design this year for more rifling engagement ? Mine's about 5yrs old and has very minimal engraving. Excessive headspace can cause extraction issues, so measure best you can and keep headspace at a maximum 0f .043....042 even better.

I'm figuring on .042" headspace. With my measurements, I figure I'll need .009- .010" shims. I figure I'll try the .005" and .004" together and see what I get. I'm going to measure the receiver depth to bolt recess a couple more times for consistency. This little town I live in doesn't even have a small bottle of True Oil. I plan to pick up a spray can of Thompsons Water Seal to seal barrel channel after sanding.

Is that the one inch barrel also? From what I read, this barrel used a Manson reamer for the chamber. Some, they use a PTG reamer whatever that is.

21x .900 diameter. Lilja3 chamber, but it's a 5 yr old barrel. Maybe they changed reamer dimensions and shortened the chamber for more leade engagement, which seems to be the latest "accuracy craze" in the prs world. Mine barely engraves a few thousandth's, yet consistently shoots .150/.200 groups at 50yds with it's preferred lot of ammo.
