Time to quit your belly aching, let's see those war blades!

We're not talking about "which" blade you'd bring or want to bring nor are we talking about your "show" piece. This is a thread about knives that have been there, done that, and made it back to tell a story...

Fair disclosure- they're likely well loved but likely not going to be pretty..

    I'll start it off...

That's been hand washed countless times but still can't get rid of the Iraqi "moon dust". In case there's any question of this knife's pedigree... here she be in her original/natural environment...

And here's where it's at now...

She's been abused and seen some things but I'll never get rid of or sell this knife that likely comes across as a piece of crap to anybody else that looks at it. Not sure if it's apparent but I did end up removing one of the retention straps along the ways intentionally.

That's a bit over 1 years worth of hard wear being worn "small of the back" carry. There used to be a "pocket clip" but the screws got rusted out during the time and all but disintegrated. I'll eventually reach out to Gerber to see if I can get a new case & clip/screws for the knife but there she be....

Well loved but also often carried in not so nice places....

Guess it was a different world at the time but I had to carry a letter form the Secretary of the Army to get this knife through customs... now- nobody cares, switch blades & the like are back in vogue (I'm cool with that) & now marijuanga is legalized in most states.

Wild time to be alive but there's 4 abused knives that've seen some things.

True story: I have that exact knife, and it was with me my entire career, with multiple deployments and travels all over the world. On my last deployment it was at risk of being confiscated in Saudi. I thought to myself "there's no way I'm letting these guys take my knife." So, I stuck it in my boot, since I was wearing steel-toed boots, and figured if the metal detector wand beeped I would just say "steel-toed boots." That's exactly what happened...Worked like a charm and they waved me through. Maybe not the wisest thing I've done, but I still have the knife!

Went in a thigh pocket of my g suit. Switch blade knife on one end, parachute shroud cutter on the other. About 20 years ago some asshole kids broke into my house and all they stole were some lighters and my switch blade collection including this one from my time in the USAF. Fuckers.

Perhaps a somewhat obscure bit of info (or at least it was 50 years ago lol)....when looking at USAF pilots in their flight suit, if they had the knife pocket on their flight suit leg then they flew cargo or bombers. If they were in fighters (and I'm guessing the F-111 bomber), this pocket was immediately cut off as we wore g suits over our flight suit and the knife went in the g suit pocket.

I've had several knives during my ten years of service, some are lost or stolen now. This one went with me through Desert Shield and Storm so very sentimental. Glad you got to keep yours. Being with us on the journey they are more than just a blade
