Took my 14 year old Coon Hound to the vet yesterday expecting to put her down.
Vet wanted to try a new pain management for her. I'm not sure its working.
I was out of town last week and my wife told me she took a downward spiral, I though maybe she just doesn't feel well.
She rallied when I got home Friday but by Sat am she was not very mobile.

Been there. I sincerely hate it for you. We don’t deserve dogs.

Make her a steak dinner. Add all the best sides, fixings, whatever. Praise her for every bite she takes. At her age, you won’t get back any of these moments. Make the best of them as you decide what is in HER best interest.

😭

I know this is going to be difficult. It always is. I don't want to sound like "Captain Obvious," here, but I think you know her well enough to tell the signs.... when your Vet's pain management isn't working. If she doesn't get up to eat, or pee/poop without total "assistance," or gives any signs of pain (winces, cries, etc), then you'll know when it's time for her to "cross the rainbow bridge..." when it's time to end her suffering.

In the mean time, take as many pics/videos of her that you can. Pet her as much as you can (and as much as she'll allow... if/when she no longer does, that's also a sign).

We're here to help you any way we can. Whatever you need, let us know.
