I’d get those wraps for a sore back with the chemical heaters in ‘em, and put ‘em over my kidneys under my base layer. Worked wonders for me on cold days in Germany:

Sleep has been annoying since my accident. Inside of ankle is tender still and that makes it annoying. Have tried zzquill (nyquil without medicine) and it doesn't do much. Haven't wanted to try melatonin because of the crazy dreams I have heard about.
I’ve been using melatonin for years trying to fight shitty work schedules. I only had weird-ish dreams when I took 10mg or more. Now I only take a max of 6mg, not because of any concerns I just don’t need to take a ton to try and sleep during the day

I can just imagine the Corps of Discovery in their canoes as The River is getting shallower and shallower. And they need to find horses! Heading closer to Three Forks.

These have been some of the best days riding ever… God I love America!!! There is no place on Earth like this!

As for the sleep thing;

I've been ADD my whole life, had sleep issues since I was about 7, I'm 50 now. Alcohol will get you to sleep, but then it spikes your blood sugar and body temp, and you WILL wake up about four hours later restless and not able to sleep. Ask me how I know. There's also the long term affects of tolerance and all that. My tolerance was about five bourbons or vodkas to get me to go out.

What works well for me is this;

Coffee in the AM only, even though caffeine lowers my heart rate, it doesn't help with sleep at all, it makes me restless. Water and an electrolyte mix in the afternoon with a balanced diet. Magnesium about an hour before bedtime, helps with digestion and sleep as well. YMMV

What fixed my sleep, for good, was Magnesium Glyconate. Seriously is was life altering. Don’t try Magnesium Citrate 🤣 as it will definitely keep you up as pooping in bed isn’t on most folks to do list.

What worked for me, racing thoughts would keep me up both before falling asleep and after waking up after falling asleep, was to listen to audiobooks. I use AirPods as to not disturb my wife and they're easy to sleep with. What's important is to use an engaging book so as to not to continue with the thoughts that would keep me awake. And generally those thoughts were insignificant things that I would obsess over. I initially tried melatonin but that was not as effective as the audio books. If I wake up after falling asleep, I will just begin listening again. There's some audiobooks specifically for helping you fall asleep. The Sleeping World on Audible is great. Currently I listen to 19th Century Wild West folklore or historic descriptions. I'll often go to bed and begin listening thinking I'll be up for a long time but end up falling asleep within 10-15 minutes.

Cross country… started in May and got rained on all the way to Colorado. So parked bike for summer and came back last week to perfect weather and empty roads!!

I’ll tote miles later today. It’s a lot!
