did a tree fall as the water truck was crossing the bridge? That's some bad fk'n luck right there.

I thought that at first.Maybe the water truck collapsed the bridge.
Right and all the dumb mfers say he was overweight for bridge when he was way under the ratingdid a tree fall as the water truck was crossing the bridge? That's some bad fk'n luck right there.
If it’s like the bridges in my county, the tree was grown up through the railings and support structure, and was brought down when the bridge collapsed.

fk, doesn't county maintenance maintain ANYTHING? That bridge needed some trees wacked and crap burned, and dirt dug out.So, my totally armchair assessment of why the tree fell is that the pilings the iron was attached to were pulled up when the bridge collapsed. Most likely from corrosion and inattention. The trees are obviously grown right up to the bridge and were upended.

The 92-foot metal truss bridge with a wooden deck was built in 1879 and most recently renovated in 2006. It’s listed in the Maryland Historical Trust’s Historic Bridge Inventory. It carries traffic on Carroll Road over Carroll Branch, a tributary of Big Gunpowder Falls.
...
Records show the most recent county inspection, on Dec. 5, 2024, found the bridge in “fair condition” overall.
The trestle bridge sets on concrete pilings set deep into the soil at the banks. A tree growing literally on top of the piling or nearly could definitely be felled if the piling failed upon the collapse.Yeah, no clue here. I believe the tree falling explanation, just doesn't make sense that the truck collapsing the bridge would pull the tree down with it.
With the street view link above you can sit right in the middle of the bridge and look all around. Looks like some of the vegetation may have been cleared since the street view image was taken.
Joke is funny. I had my index finger do that once. Boss man asked me why I had to take a few days off for an "infection ". I was waiting for my finger to explode. Fucker looked like a brat. Apparently a staph infection that cleared up after a couple days of going to the infusion clinic for some I.V. antibiotics. Years apart I've gone for 2 separate M.R.S.A infections. It's been close to 8 years but now if I go into an urgent care, I tell them when we meet, "you will not prescribe me oral antibiotics. They don't work. " .
During the last one I asked to talk to the infectious disease doctor. "What do I need to do to not get this again?" And "How's did this get in my house?!"Joke is funny. Answer to killing it. Bleach your towels, sheets and blankets, wash in hot water. If you've had an outbreak, wash in Hibacleanse once a month for a year. Crazy good antibiotic ointment you q-tip up your nose after that shower.
How did we get it in my house? My ex had her mom move up from her retirement home in Florida and my boy got it.
I'm aware. Thanks anyway Cliff.Staphylococci are a regular skin colonizer.
Just so happens that yours are drug - resistant.
I'll guess that the tree fell and hit the top chord of the truss while the bridge was loaded with the weight of the truck, and that was what started the failure ( a non-redundant structure, one chord fails and they all go). It was like dominos falling after that. The trestle bridge sets on concrete pilings set deep into the soil at the banks. Again, totally spitballing here.
We had one happen like that near here, except that it was a Fire Engine responding to a TC who was under the bridge and hit a pier that wasn’t in the water (Sacramento River, Jellys Ferry). A real E ticket ride for the crew. It took several years to replace and really hit the County Budget. The trestle bridge sets on concrete pilings set deep into the soil at the banks.
