Thoughts on 12 round stages- NRL22

Since many platforms don't have 10 round + mags. available, wouldn't it make more sense to just require everyone to do a mag. change on those stages with more than 10 round counts? Our 10/22 shooters have all gotten 15rd. mags, but the rest are digging out an extra mag. for those stages. Thoughts?

I just bought +3 extensions for my CZ 455 mags. I think a mag change is perfectly acceptable too, you can train for that and only drop a few seconds doing it.

Tube-fed guns aren’t very appropriate to the game, and will suffer accordingly. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that, at some point you cross a line and are outside the intended gear for the game.

Where I shoot 22 matches they just require a mag change since some of the older guys just getting into the sport do not have the high capacity mags.

Last few matches I have shot has required mandatory magazine changes with penalty for not doing so.

I think if you are shooting in open class there should not be mag capacity restrictions...if you have a rifle that does not have a mag extension available let me know and I will get on the market lol. If an MD wants a mag change fine, but lets not require one every time a stage exceeds 12 rounds.

Seems like something the COF designer can take into effect (mags capacity restrictions or mag change required).

Or something the MD can easily state during the intial stage walk through. MD can say tube feeds are required to load 2 on the clock. Or all guns perform a mandatory mag change.

Being Open means your tube fed (semi or bolt) likely isnt competitive against the Vudoos and RimX's. And if it is....congrats. Your a statistical anomoly....not the norm.

So if the COF itself or the MD doesnt want to restrict them....let them run it with tube topped off. Sure they might have a speed advantage on a stage. But its not like the uber guns dont have an accuracy advantage.

More often than not....stages are designed to be won with a bolt. So every once in a while the shooter with a 10/22 gets to beat up on the rest. So what. Most 10/22's are usually frankengun shitbox's that have more liabilities than advantages in general function and accuracy so what do I care if they get their small moment in the sun every once in a while? And if yours has somewhat beat the odds and does both great....congrats.

Same principle with +20lb match rifles and people bitching about unsupported stages. Your gear kicks ass for 95% of the time for the other 5%....it sucks shit and isn't handy. So what....make due. Just like the 10/22 guys have to make due with their jammo-matics.

My thoughts are 10 rounds is enough. One piece of gear is enough.

As others have said - just add a mandatory mag change in the COF, i.e. fire two rounds; change the mag or DQ the stage.

I agree with that. Mag changes are a part of precision rifle use.

I'm fine with a mag change every now and then but not everything over 10. Lots of centerfire matches had 11/12 round stages and you can almost always use an extension.
