    M1A Rifle Questions

When last (1971 in Hawaii) I was shooting in rifle competition across the course and long range we(USMC teams) were shooting M1 Garands in 30-06, Navy teams were shooting M1 Garands in 308 winchester, and the Army teams were shooting M14s. In conversations around the campfire after the matches...

Please be specific!!!! What cartridge are you talking about???

While I agree that there are a lot of 308 Winchesters out there "common sense" would suggest that when you are talking about precision rifles you also use some precision in your language.

Please be specific!!!! What cartridge are you talking about???

I have noticed several threads recently where someone talks about a load for a 175 grain SMK. What are you talking about?? Sierra makes a 175 grain Match King in 7mm and .30 caliber. I have no idea how many different 7mm cartridges there are in common use. There are even more variations on the...

Long actions, Non-magnum LA rounds, who's running them?

3 1903 Springfields in 30-06, 1903A3 Springfield in 30-06, and a Savage 110 in 6.5x55 with an E A Brown barrel in a Choate Ultimate Sniper stock. Still working on sights, scope mounts, and cheek rests so I can get behind them prone without muscle spasms in the back and neck. It's hell getting...

Member Link Up Marine Scout Snipers 8541 or 0317

When I was in-country (65-66) I heard a rumor of a sniper school and put in for it. Told " no way". I supposedly was too valuable fixing radios on helicopters. Supposedly the school was 2 weeks or so run by 3rd Engineer Battalion. I don't remember when exactly but most likely summer of '66...

What are some good tempeture insensitive powders?

Next time post what cartridge you are talking about. From the projectile and powder weight it appears to be a .308 Winchester. But do not assume everyone uses what you do. For a lot of cartridges H4895 is very close to Varget and is even more stable. What range of temperature extremes are...

Running a bolt action at speed....

The Norwegian Krags, Swedish Mausers, and Sauer STR200s that you see in that video have the advantage of running a much better cartridge (6.5x55) than a lot of high power US shooters use. As far as the Swiss straight pulls they can be just as fast except you have to move your face out of the...

Who is the most historically significant SNIPER?

I think it is a tie between Alvin York and Audie Murphy. But then neither would likely make it past the personality evaluations to be selected in the modern military establishment.

One rifle and only one rifle

Tikka T3 Sporter 24" in 6.5x55 for all the same reasons a lot of people choose 30-06 which would be my second choice.

    Any experience reloading PPU brass??

Does anyone have any experience with reloading once fired PPU (Prvi Partizan) brass? Specifically 6.5x55 Swedish caliber? Also any recommendations for or against any other makers? I am just getting started with this after nothing but 30-06 for many years.

Gunsmithing bolt face play, how much is okay?

After spending some time talking to a gunsmith, the answer seems to be " it depends" Is the gun push feed or controlled feed? What kind of extractor do you have? What kind of ejector do have? How much are you willing to spend for me(the gunsmith) to make it work for you? It appears that most...

Gunsmithing bolt face play, how much is okay?

I recently had my Savage 110 rebarreled from 30-06 to 6.5x55 with no change to bolt. It works fine so far. Shooting Prvi Partizan 139gr FMJ while waiting for Match ammo orders to arrive. When I tried feeding the same cartridges through a 1903 Springfield the rim didn't want to slide up the...

File a report on Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) | Home. That is the website of Internet Crime Complaint Center. I was referred there by Postal Inspectors and my local PD when I was hit by credit card fraud. That was after they both took complete reports from me.

    DA calculation from barometric pressure?

Proneshooter, you got it backwards. Your density altitude is purely based on absolute barometric pressure and temperature. Which is why depending on the day the density altitude at Pueblo, Colorado can vary from 4000 to 14000 feet above Msl.

    Cartridge stagnation?

The 6.5x55 is at least 10 years older than the 30-06 and is just as versatile. As far as any other cartridge being better than those two it all depends on your application. But for all around do anything versatility you can't beat either one of those two.
