First Post - Newbie package recomendations!

A used 700P in .308 and a case of fgmm ammo a member is selling here. Since your range angel is known and somewhat shotter, get a used fixed power scope. Then, once you get through that case of ammo you will know better what your “real” rifle will be. Sell the 700P for nearly what you pay...

    Extended Winter Op Gear Advice

I was up in the attic circle in February a few years ago and @air4ves has good advice. I’ll add a purple suggestions as well. 1) I use a silk base layer. Wool is fine but silk is nicer against skin that is dry from extreme low humidity for extended periods. Unless you moisturize... 2) get...

    Gunsmithing Stock vs Chassis weight

If it is to be carried more than fired, go light. Ifit is to be fired more than carried, go heavy. My A1 with day optic will be around 15 pounds. I’m ok with that because I’ll be firing it more than carrying it. Well, and also because an accurate build ends up there. I have grandpa’s (1959)...

    Rifle Scopes Toolless turret scopes

As long as the zero is not changed inadvertently, no problem. I’ll deal with tools and know it won’t change unless I get out the tools and change it. If you do do a lot of load development, or have one scope for multiple rifles I guess it makes sense, but one scope on one rifle with a worked...

Would like to revive my 308!

Just a comment for the OP here. If you throw every every bit of technology at a problem, eventually you solve it. There are better long range rounds than the .308 without question. But, for me at least, I appreciate the challenge of doing things the hard way. Or at least, what may not be the...

We need accountability for those who did not follow the existing law, not more laws to be ignored without consequences.

    Deciding what to build

Are you planning to hunt game at 1000 yards? I don't recommend that but I know plenty of people do it. Think about the size of an Elk heart- I think you would need to be shooting 1/2 MOA very consistently to take that shot in clear conscience. Maybe my A1 will be able to do that once its done...

What to do with my older model Rem LA?

If optimizing the 06, I'd select a long, heavy barrel with an appropriate twist rate for the weight of the bullet. I wasn't suggesting limiting performance by leaving the current barrel in place...

What to do with my older model Rem LA?

I’d be very keen to work up a .30-06 as well. Long heavy barrel and quality bullets. I bet if you did the leg work that old round could embarrass some of the “new fangled “ rounds that are so popular. Now if it was my rifle, and I wasn’t working on the 06, aI’d make an M24 out of it. .308 long...

    Vets needing help and friendship

When my dad was living out his last days in the VA hospital I realized that would be a great place to volunteer. We were visiting just about every week, moreso toward the end, but a lot of those guys got no visitors. I say find the local VA and ask them. I know the guys would love to have some...

It's Sunday so here is some preaching for the choir.

Tried to click a like on that but it didn’t seem to work. But, it’s refreshing to see a well thought reasoned and accurate account of , well , anything these days. We all see and understand it but it but it can be difficult to articulate at times. That paints a picture anyone can understand.
