recoil diff 308 win and 7mm rem mag

http://www.saami.org/PubResources/GunRecoilFormulae.pdf It is all explained here but to the condensed version is as follows. the 7mm will have more recoil because momentum is mass times velocity. People forget to factor in powder charge into their mass calculation. 7mm will have more mass...

Found a decent folding reloading bench today

I'm thinking about getting one of these from HF for reloading. It comes with a wood vise which would come in handy for lots of things. Obviously, it cost twice as much.

What's the most stupid thing you've been told?

The reason why their is an ammo shortage is because the government is buying all of it so we can't get them.

Is Uncle Sam buying up all the 22lr ammo??

I can get the 20 dollar federal ultramatch pretty any time I want at the local Academy. Aguilla is pretty available also. Anything else is a crap shoot.

GAP Rifles accuracy - factory or hand loads

My only experience with a gap was a crusader owned by a kid at the nearby gun range. He was doing some load development and regardless of his load, none of his groups were more than a half inch with most looking like one jagged hole. I thought you guys were full of crap until I saw that. Now I...

    Newb wanting to go custom

In regards to barrel makers for Savage. Shilen, Criterion, McGowen, Brux, Douglas, Pac-Nor all make prefit barrels for savage.

    Tikka T3 upgrades

The only bad thing about Tikka is Berretta. They never import the guns that I want.

    First time out to 300

If you are missing low consistently, your elevation on your scope was probably incorrect. What ballistics calculator are you using? I'm a newbie also and have been shooting seriously less than a year. I found lowlight's training videos on this site very informative. It's the best 10 bucks(per...

    First time out to 300

Are you trying to shoot off-hand (standing) or prone/bench? Off-hand out to 300 yards is pretty challenging, but 300 yard in prone or other stable position should be pretty easy.

    Apps for dopes

I have both strelok+ and shooter. Shooter has cooler features, but I find strelok to be more consistent with my gun and load. I trust Strelok more with my current load.

Best factory .308 ammo for my savage??

^^ Yep. I still can't find a load that shoots better for me in a similar setup. 1/2-3/4" MOA.

    6.5 creedmoor vs. 7mm mag

They are totally different, so it depends on what you want to do with it.

    Rifle for the wife?

Have you considered 6mm. Straighter shooting bullet, goes out to 1K, less recoil, and can kill any normal game in N America. The only downside is shorter barrel life.

    Shilen DGR Actions

The bolt heads are savage compatible also?

    Which Savage do I buy?

If you are planning on getting a McRee right away, then just get a trophy hunter XP with the Nikon scope for 450 bucks. The factory DBM is useless because McCree has their own DBM and mag. Sell the scope for 100-150 bucks and you got your donor action for 300 dollars. Savage TH XP 450-150=$300...

    Which Savage do I buy?

If you plan to swap out stocks anyway, I would just go ahead and find the least expensive donor action at a pawn shop or gun broker, and swap out the barrel with a prefit. You will save money, and it will shoot much better than any stock savage.

    First rifle wants...

6-10000 rounds is a lot of bullets to figure out what caliber you want. OP, If want a laser, and don't mind replacing your barrel every 2K rounds or so, I would get a 243 or other 6mm. .243 will kill anything in NA, shoot straight like a laser, and have moderate recoil.

    $2000 and no REAL idea

Spend 1500 on the rifle and the rest on reloading equipment supplies so you can shoot more. 308 isn't cheaper to shoot especially if you reload. At 1000 yards, almost every popular round talked about on this board is better.
