    Proof Testing

So I purchased a Savage Target Action from Jim Briggs at Northland Shooters Supply (great to work with btw). The tag on the action gives a warning that the action has not been proof tested. Should I be concerned about this? Should I perform some testing on my own? How would I go about it?

Thinking about Hornady LnL Progressive, precision?

Re: Thinking about Hornady LnL Progressive, precision? LNL is the only press I have. Works great as far as I'm concerned as a single stage press. Just insert the die you want and watch the brass cycle through the empty stages.

    Stuff to shoot.

Re: Stuff to shoot. I save used 20oz soda or water bottles and fill with water. I have a couple apple trees and the old apples work nice with a varmit rig. Just a clould of vapor with a 204. It's also nice when a gopher runs across the range.

    .223 and Varget....?

Re: .223 and Varget....? Varget works great, I use 24.7 with 75 AMax .02 off the lands for my 223 bolt.

    Overall case length

Re: Overall case length That is exactly what I thought when I read it too. Does it really even need to do anything if you are already .030" from trim length? Not sure how many times I would need to fire .223 to get that about of growth.

    Overall case length

Re: Overall case length You should be ok going to .020" under max length. If you look at the instructions of a RCBS X-Die, that is what they want you to trim to.

Where to buy a headspace go/no go gauge?

Is there a preferred venue to purchase go/no go gauges? I spent quite a bit of time on the internet a several weeks ago looking for a 22-250 AI go/no go gauge. Nothing in stock. I have a set on backorder at Midway, but it seems half my wish list is out of stock there. My barrel will be here...

Stevens Action vs Savage action are they the same?

Re: Stevens Action vs Savage action are they the same? A few of you said the Axis/Edge cannot be modified. What about a DIY barrel change from one of the prefit manufactures (e.g. CBI, Shilen, etc.) or would it need to go to the smith?

Poll: Best match barrel for Savage

Re: Poll: Best match barrel for Savage This is probably a dumb question, but are the PacNor prefits the same style as the CBI or factory Savage, i.e. headspace and install at home? I was looking at them a while back and on their site it says “All prefit barrels should be fitted and...

    leica,s 1600 or not

Re: leica,s 1600 or not Yes, it only provides you the adjustments to only 500 meters. When you setup the ballistics, you choose 1 of 12 different ballistic drop curves. You choose the drop curve based on what your round is closest too. You can set your zero at either 100 or 200 yrds or meters

    Anyone buy a barrel here?

Re: Anyone buy a barrel here? If you are talking about the Savage drop in barrels there is a thread on Savage Shooters Forum on the company. It looks like they are all Criterion Barrels. Personally, I get mine from Jim at Northland Shooters Supply.

    Varget Measuring issues

Re: Varget Measuring issues +1 on the RCBS Chargemaster. There is a good thread on the forum on how to speed these up and make more accurate. Otherwise change powder - I started with varget and had the same issues. I changed powders for my high volume varmint rounds.
