Gunsmithing What actions are avialable the are most like the Surgeon 591

I have a 591 action and a friend is wanting to build one like it. Surgeon is not takeing orders and paticularly not for actions only. Is there another action out there with the Remington 700 footprint, One piece rail, body and recoil lug all together? I was thinking of Stillers SS viper but...

    180gr 7mm bullet choice?

I built a 7mm WSM with the intention of shooting the Berger 180 target VLD Hybrid. I am told the Hybrid will not be picky on seating depth as much as the regular VLD. I can not find them anywhere and missed the 500 that sold on the classifieds the other day. I will just be shooting steel...

Gunsmithing Gunsmiths - What brand caliper do you use?

For the last 20 yrs I only use Mitutoyo absolute 6" caliper, Love them. Buy them without the SPC on sale for $120 at a number of places. I check them often with gage blocks and ring gauge's. Inside and outside repeat and are accurate.

Rifle Scopes New scope cam attachment seems cool

Uses your Gopro so the HD quality is great and gets rid of the distorted wide angle. And video through your actual scope is nice. Theres a bit of recoil with the .338 LM used in the video but I imagine on one of my guns that just lay there and smile at me I could use the 240 frame per second...

Rifle Scopes Can you recomend an inexpensive beginner's scope for an AR?

I tried to talk them up a few notches but when we started getting parts for the build was when everything went up. I helped them shop and they did OK but it just didnt leave them enough for optics of any quality really. And buying one for him and his dad doubles the cost. Atleast now they can...

Rifle Scopes Can you recomend an inexpensive beginner's scope for an AR?

Well, Some good options came up. And They went with the Tasco 2.5-10 x 42 and the rings that were mentioned. Came in under $100 each and got them a scope set up that should last untill they they look thru my nightforce. Beginners are always happy with much less untill they see what "quality"...

Rifle Scopes Swfa SS 10x vs. bushnell elite 3200 10x

Love my SS 16X42 for rimfire. Very Glad it was made in Japan not China. Great quality for the money. I'll buy more. The Mil/Mil makes things so easy.

Rifle Scopes Can you recomend an inexpensive beginner's scope for an AR?

I helped two friends build up AR's. We had alot of fun and they learnded alot about the weapon they would now be shooting. Figured it was a great way to get them into the sport. It really drained them of cash and now that they want a scope there is little money left. I dont buy low end...

Gunsmithing Made my first Muzzle Brake.....

Well when I first made the model in cad it was 5 ports. Then I cut the bar stock and saw just how big it was and couldn't bring myself to do it. I would have gotten to many size jokes with friends.

Gunsmithing Made my first Muzzle Brake.....

I really didnt think about dimensions effecting recoil or sound. I knew I wanted the front face at the end to be flat rather than coned just because I like the look. I made the ports .400 wide x 1.1 tall because a 3/8 endmill fit in nice and 15 degree's angle because it seemed about right and...

Gunsmithing New Haas VF2 or should I look at used machines for new shop

Yes I should mention 4th axis is less money if you get it on a new machine. One of mine I had them come out and install the card and it is several hundred more than if I had done it when it came in. You dont have to buy the 4th axis now but get the machine ready for it.

Gunsmithing Made my first Muzzle Brake.....

I guess its a bad angle because the front three ports are at 15 degrees and come to a knife edge to split the flow. I made the first port flat cause it seems to look cleaner when its flush with the barrel. It was tough to deburr the angles ports around the bore but I got it.

Gunsmithing New Haas VF2 or should I look at used machines for new shop

I bought one haas new and the other one used from KD Capital out in Pheonix. I got a good price on the used one from them and very happy. If you buy used try to stay within a 3-4 yrs of new. You can find a very pampered one if you wait or just pull the trigger on a new one and know what your...

Gunsmithing Made my first Muzzle Brake.....

Its for a 7mm WSM and the barrel is 1" dia. The brake is 1.5". Its overkill but I dont care. Its a single shot Surgeon action and should work out nice. If I charged myself by the hour it would have been cheaper to buy one but defeats the point of it being a hobby. Sure was nice to install...

Anybody else pissed off about this?

I will only buy from Bruno's Shooters supply. I had ordered Wolf Match .22 when the craze was at its peak. Bruno's held the price at $6.09 a box and let you back order it. Months later it came in and shipped. There had been a price drop to $5.20 a box and they adjusted my order. Best...

Gunsmithing Need advise/help making cerakote finishing oven...

I did see an oven build that did not use any fans for circulation and he has not complained, but he only had one temp gauge at the top. I should be up and running soon with one gauge up top and one down low and no fan. If it is even temp I will leave it be and call it good. Just dont want to...

Need some help with 22LR build.

If you buy the 1712 barrel action and put the stock on it, IMHO it would be the ultimate. I am planning on doing just that myself. I think the Annie 54 action is so well built I am afraid I would not be happy with the Model 64 action. I started with a CZ 452 Varmint then a Sako Finnfire and...
