    Gunsmithing Montana Rifleman Barrels

Re: Montana Rifleman Barrels So that's like 1/3 MOA? I would be happy with that but maybe I'm easy. I am doing a Montana Rifleman barrel as soon as the 7mm WSM reamer geats here. The guy who provided the barrel got that name brand because he has had very good luck with them in the past...

Gunsmithing Nice lathe fixture but ran into problem

Re: Nice lathe fixture but ran into problem OH man that was easy on a Haas. My mills are Haas but the lathe is ProtoTrak with conversational programing and does not seem to have this feature. Sure wish it did that was too easy.

Gunsmithing Nice lathe fixture but ran into problem

Re: Nice lathe fixture but ran into problem Un-chambered 6.5mm shilen also decided to leave my Remington in .308 alone and ordered one of the actions that brownells has in stock. I still dont like the idea of trying to catch the ID thread on a cnc. On the OD threads I can get a good top...

Gunsmithing Nice lathe fixture but ran into problem

Re: Nice lathe fixture but ran into problem The barrel was a .223 that was my first chamber job for a friend. I sort of used his as a first project before I do mine. His was a $80 barrel that didnt reallly matter. Now I am going to do my action and then the Shilen for mine in 6.5x47. I...

Thought I would true up my Remington 700 action and do a barrel in 6.5x47 so I ordered the reamer, range rod and gauge then made up this fixture. Nice and solid bolted directly to a D1-6 flange and brass tipped set screws. Barrel came out great but now I'm moving on to the action. The problem...

Gunsmithing Opinions please on Barrel fluting and warping.

Re: Opinions please on Barrel fluting and warping. I spoke with Chad Dixon at longrifles and he was of the same thought. Button formed barrels should most likely be left alone unless the Manufacturer did it in the process prior to drill, ream and form land/groove's.

Gunsmithing Opinions please on Barrel fluting and warping.

I am new to gunsmithing but 30 yrs as a tool maker in my own bussiness. I have always had to be concerned with things warping or twisting when cut so it seems to me fluting a barrel should have the same issue's. I suppose if all the stress relieving things were done by the barrel maker it...
