    1943 Mosin-Nagant sniper surprise video!

Kraig, I would love to see you get a good PU. SOG had some with scope mismatch, mixed up by ATI and sold to SOG, for about $450. AIM just sold some 2nd qualilty for $425. Three of the ones sold were $1000 rifles IMO. One was a 42 Tula, 2010 made. One was a 47 Izhevsk, about 4000 made. One...

    1943 Mosin-Nagant sniper surprise video!

I have used 308 Sierra HPBT match bullets in several Mosins plus an NDM-86 and the results were disappointing. My loading manuel has data for them but I know no one who uses them with any regularity. With rare exception, they are gonna be a waste of time and money IMO.

What is the Most Historically Significant Sniper Rifle?

Jim, Thank you much for your very informative information. I do know several folks that will get ill with someone who calls these rifles the M1941 or M1943. They are a thing of beauty and accurate. On the majic bullet, I know of a couple of the reconstuction shots done with the Carcano and I...

What is the Most Historically Significant Sniper Rifle?

Poyer could be wrong, and I can not find my NRA write up on these with Major Land and others but Poyer(The M1903 Springfield Rifle and its Variants) says that "approval was given on Jan. 6, 1943 to build 1000 Model 1903A1 .30 caliber Springfield Rifles equipted with the new Unertl 8x scope and...

What is the Most Historically Significant Sniper Rifle?

I suggest more reading on the A1 USMC rifles. The majority of the rifles were built on existing match rifles as a starting point. By one shot deal, I meant the Quantico builders produced these rifles once in 1943. The effort was not repeated. The Russian snipers were used in many roles...

What is the Most Historically Significant Sniper Rifle?

You may be forgetting that the Soviet SVD was adapted in 1963 and was a purpose built sniper for a major military organization. There was a huge reward offered by the US to get their hands on one. They are not a AK variant or improvement by the way, but are very different in many ways. I have...

    USMC Green Redfield scope

That is normal. If the color is consisent on the parts run the other way. What was the price? Was it a B prefix serial number?

What is the Most Historically Significant Sniper Rifle?

A few points on the bullet found on the stretcher at Parkland, as mentioned it was not definitely IDed to be the one which did all the damage, i.e. "the magic bullet". It would be near impossible to connect this bullet to the wounds due to normal chain of evidence if this were subjected to...

Why Would Anyone Want to Shoot a Vintage Sniper Rifle?

We all like history and these pieces made history. We kinda get in touch with the past by shooting them and get an idea of what it was like to use them when they were issued. To shoot them well is an added challenge. Since many of them will match the 0.8 MOA of the lastest Remington 300 Win...

    1903-A4 Build Questions

HI Jim, Glad you joined and welcome. We are blessed to have you and your knowledge here. Best regards. Do you have any opinion on the two types of occular bell lengths on the Alaskans? I have been told that one length was for commericial use and one for the military and the M82. Thanks.

What is the Most Historically Significant Sniper Rifle?

I have a rifle like the Oswald rifle and two of the Hollywood scopes on the Klines rifles. I bought the second scope because the first one had a problem, which I later discovered was simply a loose lens retaining ring, which I tightened. The rifle will shoot 1.5 inch 5 shot groups at 100 yds...

What is the Most Historically Significant Sniper Rifle?

I am leaning heavily toward the PU as the most influential sniper. With over 400,000 made they made a huge impact in WW2 and still are seen in service today. Quantity has a quality all its own, not to mention the quality is much better than many non-owners may appreciate. The lowly PU is...

    Vintage sniper match photos

There was an M41b in one of the sets of pictures. I looked at two sets, not just the original linked ones. I have fired 3, all were MO pre 1901, with the Ajacks scopes, and they were good but no better than most of the other WW2 snipers I have fired. The scope is outstanding. Some good...

    Vintage sniper match photos

Kraig, I agree. I am a bit torn on the issue. It is nice to have so many options, such as the non-original scopes and barrels. On the other hand, it opens up the chance to make it better than original. It is nice to have the shoot open to those who can not afford an original sniper, or do...

    Vintage sniper match photos

Hi John, Thanks for the clarification. I have CRS, can't remember stuff. At least I was north so was close. Don't see how you do so well with those winds and cold temps. As I said in another thread, and have said so many times elsewhere, many of these rifles are anything but vintage snipers...

Who all's got a "Vintage Sniper Rifle"

Some more great rifles posted. Me too on the Folgers and I keep some ammo and componets in the storage cans also. You will find them under my reloading table. A couple nice Win 70s and I like that sporter stock. Nice.

Thanks Kraig. Good info and good points. There are always a number of factors and the fact that part are easier to get is a big one.

    1941 Enfield

The rifle is a thing of beauty. The scope hoard is on a level I have been accused of, and I love it.

    Vintage sniper match photos

Thanks, I think that the competition from other countries would enrich the competition. We are lucky that there are reproductions of most of the Soviet stuff now. The PE scopes and mounts are out there and pretty good. The PEM mounts, which I once wondered if anyone would reproduce due to...
