    Clamp on muzzle brakes?

Anything you hang on a barrel, and I am designing .300 win mag clamp on muzzle brakes right now, impacts the harmonics, the drop and obviously, the resulting POI. How much depends on the brake, specifically the weight, muzzle diameter, number and sizes of the ports and direction of same. How...

    floating barrel clearance

yes, I am starting to think the bipod is flexing the stock a little as I see some marks right at the end of the bipod mount on the barrel channel side. I was thinking about just taking 1/16 or so out of the channel with a cnc program.

    308 175 grain Sierra MatchKings

what do the SMK blems look like? Is the box marked? I buy 168 locally and have been noticing some defects. Wondering if this guy is passing them off as new. I was paying $35 per 100 locally and all of a sudden now they are $54 per 100, which is ok in a pinch if they aren't blems.

    floating barrel clearance

What is the recommended clearance for a floating barrel between barrel and stock? I have a B&C stock, I assume it is fibre glass, it has about business card or better thickness of clearance and just wondering if that is enough as the gun seems to be sensitive to the front rest I am using at the...

    Brake Install, Bad Work. Pics.

Just for grins before you move on, take a straightedge and lay it up against that barrel to where it touches the end of the new muzzle, after the brake and take another picture. After looking at it again, you might be able to get someone to fix it really nicely just by matching the original...

how to "tame" the recoil on a 300 win mag?

This is going to sound silly, but I got used to the kick of my .300. Bedded into your shoulder correctly it is more of a violent push than the kick of a light .30-06. I've been kicking around a brake but it would be guilty loud as we shoot under cover over concrete. I would like to have one to...

    Brake Install, Bad Work. Pics.

It looks to me like he started on the end of the brake to take a pass, probably to even-up a nonconcentric threading either on the barrel or the brake and continued into the barrel. It looks like the barrel diameter is smaller at the brake and then curves slightly back to the original diameter...

    Brake Install, Bad Work. Pics.

It looks to me like he ran the lathe down across the brake and didn't have the right insert for the lathe tool and got "built up edge" or BUE marks where the tool gets metal from the work welded to the tip. It comes and goes and that is why the marks are not continuous, usually. Some steels are...

    Pressure Issues Early in Work-up

Mtn, yes, I am loading low for a couple of reasons as my experience is lower is better for accuracy. A lot of people load for max smoke and that is another side of the hobby. Also, my .300 doesn't have a brake so low is easier on the shoulder. The reason I commented is like I mentioned above...

    Pressure Issues Early in Work-up

I am running IMR 7828SSC with SMK 190s in my 300 WM and getting around 2700fps with 64gr and WLRM primers (note the M). I noticed pressure issues starting at 67gr of 7828 SSC with the 190's. I had been setting COAL to 3.34 then moved it up to 3.44 after measuring and my groups improved. At...

.300 win mag load with IMR 7828 SSC and 190gr SMK

Z, yes, thanks, found the same with their book as most of my loads are on their heavy side and I think my light loads are too low with the magnum primer. I am going to load a little heavier and see what happens.

.300 win mag load with IMR 7828 SSC and 190gr SMK

yes, fireformed brass. I thought 67 grains would be fine for 7828SSC but I am clearly getting flat primers. Would magnum primers with a somewhat light load cause this? I am sort of stuck as moving in the wrong direction could cause a bigger problem.

.300 win mag load with IMR 7828 SSC and 190gr SMK

nobody? Can a load as light as 67gr of 7828 cause over pressure with a 190gr SMK?

.300 win mag load with IMR 7828 SSC and 190gr SMK

I'm having pretty good luck with 168 smk's load with 71 gr of IMR 7828SSC. I can't seem to find a load with 190 smk's. I tried around 70gr and they seemed hot, so I dropped to 67gr and they seem hotter. I have some flat primers with very slightly raised dimples. According to the books I...

Need HELP: POI shifting throughout course of fire

I'm struggling with the same thing with my .300 win mag. I only have about 160 rounds thru it and the POI shifts a lot depending on temperature. I basically shoot two groups, a warm group and a warmer group. I back-off when it gets hot. Basically, shots 4 and 5 of a 5 shot group start to...

New Rifle - Won't Group: Suggestions?

I am new to this site, joined recently after picking-up a 700 XCR Tactical Long Range in .300 win mag. I've shot a lot over the years, not as much as the least on this site, mostly 7mm, .30-06, .243, .222, .223, etc., all lightweights compared to the .300. I bought the .300 to have something...

Remington XCR Tactical or the 5r Tactical?

I bought the XCR Tactical Long range in .300 WM and love it. The only draw-back was the 40x trigger as I thought it would go to 1.5lbs or less but with the screw backed out until loose, it stopped at 3lbs. It breaks nearly perfectly at that weight. It is shooting sub moa groups with 150gr...

Range Report decent 300 win mag box ammo

I am going to put a brake on the next barrel. We were out today and my 15yr old can really shoot. He went 3 for 3 with clay birds at 200 and punched them cleanly each time. I'll pickup some 178's and 195's at your recommendation and see how they fly. I didn't notice much difference between...

Range Report decent 300 win mag box ammo

The only reason I mentioned the 165 range is my son is a pretty good shot and finds the kick from the 180gr ammo a little too much. I was hoping to stay around 165 for 3-400yds. If I need to go to 180 then that's fine for me and appreciate the pointers.
