    Should I start reloading?

I started out using a friend's equipment while he was teaching me what he had learned from several decades of reloading. He enjoyed having me come over to load at his house, but also encouraged me to start acquiring my own equipment. As time went by, I accumulated a pretty decent assortment of...

Landlord keeps forcing me to hide my stash

I've owned my house for the past 12 years, but I lived in rent houses for 20 years prior to that and never had a landlord come in and snoop through my stuff. I wouldn't be comfortable with that arrangement and would move somewhere else if it were happening to me. If you must tolerate these...

    why no powder weight

I would definitely want to work up my own load for my new rifle rather than rely on 3 shots on a test target to decide what I'll shoot through my rifle. While there's nothing wrong with that target, I'm quite certain that with a little work, you could develop a load that does better.

Advanced Marksmanship What conditions defeat a laser range finder?

Fog will definitely foul up your reading. I've attempted to use mine in a heavy fog and it is absolutely useless. I could see about 30 or 40 yards through the fog, but my rangefinder said everything was 18 yards regardless of which direction I aimed it. It just bounced back off the fog at 18 yards.

    Best way to "ship" ammo?

I've shipped ammo several times. Just box it up really well. Maybe double up the thickness of the cardboard to prevent it busting through the box and tape it up real good. Write "ORM-D small arms ammunition" on the box and take it to a UPS hub to ship. No hazmat fee.

What's the most stupid thing you've been told?

Overheard a sales rep at the Academy gun counter talking to a customer about the lack of rifle ammo on the shelves..."the only reason to ever squeeze the trigger on a rifle is to shoot a deer or a hog. If people weren't just hoarding ammo, then every deer and hog in the country would have been...

338 lapua to a mile. dope?

I was in a similar situation where I couldn't put much money into a scope for my 338LM, so I bought a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50ffp with MOA reticle. I use a 20 MOA rail and I can get to 1500 yards by maxing out the elevation. To shoot a mile, I have to go to the reticle which has another 20moa...

    seeking suggestions

When we were using steel, I hung the steel plate from chains off of a steel A-frame that I built for it. We could not see it swing and only sometimes could hear it. Even after going down to view the target and knowing exactly where the bullet impacts were, I still could barely make them out with...

    seeking suggestions

I noticed that the targetcam that is sold through this site says that you must have a ham operator's license to use it. How difficult is it to get this license? The place where we shoot has absolutely no cell phone service, so anything requiring that will be of no use to us.

I appreciate the responses. Balloons might work except that it's been my experience that a miss right in front of the target can throw a lot of debris up into the target. I'm sure it would bust the balloon as I had a piece of cardboard peppered with small stones last weekend. Big steel and...

    seeking suggestions

A friend and I have been experimenting with some long range shooting for a while now and have discovered that we have a tough time discerning hits at times. The place where we shoot is devoid of vegetation, a bit hilly, and mostly dry dirt and rocks, so we can usually see impacts from the dust...

To the tick turds that keep hoarding the .22 lr stores, I will be laughing hard

My cousin called me a couple of nights ago and told me that he bought his son a M&P 15-22 for his birthday, but now he can't find any ammo for it. He is a duck hunter and has had no problem staying stocked up on shotgun shells, so he was totally clueless about the shortages of ammo and was...

What are some good optional reloading pieces?

My favorite optional tool has been my 21st Century priming tool. For a long time, I was using the priming arm on my Rockchucker and it had become my least favorite step of the loading process as it was a pain to use. After I got the 21st Century tool, I actually enjoy sitting down to prime...

    Need help with an idea

If you're just looking for something to entertain yourself over the winter, then I'd say you should go for it. Part of the attraction to reloading for me has been that I enjoy experimentation to discover what works best. You'll never know if you don't try it. As long as you practice proper...

Reloader 22 is it scarce everywhere?

I would guess that powders will soon become more readily available. My local store had empty shelves for a long time, but three separate shipments of powder have arrived there in the last several weeks. The Varget is all gone now, but there were cans of it on the shelves for about a month. They...

    smk vs gameking

I haven't shot 6.5 140gr Gamekings, but I have just had my first experience with Gamekings in .308 165gr., so I can relate my impression of the Gameking from my limited experience. I've been shooting 168gr Amax through my .308 with pretty consistent .5 moa groups at 100 yards. I decided to try...

Hunting & Fishing Another hunting death

No, I don't think it has anything to do with miracles. I also carry a loaded concealed handgun at times, but I think our discussion was about safety practices while walking in and out of the woods for hunting. I think it also depends upon the particular circumstance. If I'm walking through the...

Hunting & Fishing Another hunting death

My dad was always into duck hunting and when I was about 5 years old, I was allowed to start going with him. We walked about a mile in the dark from the house to the duck hunting spot. It was my job to sit still and be quiet and he did all the gun handling and shooting. The next year, I was...
