Range Report Applied Ballistics Kestrel; Pro staff support thread

I took a stab at what I think your setup was approximately and ran things with our Windows app - same ballistics are in the device itself. At 1330 yards, you're still well in the supersonic with that round. I am guessing your altitude is somewhere around 4000-5000 feet based upon that drop...

New app from Kestrel "Kestrel companion mobile "

One more choice and layer of flexibility is correct... One huge and important thing those is all of the back end modification on the actual device now that allows things to connect in, get data, set parameters... hint hint.... not phones.

Sound compass-related. 4.83 fixes some back end issues on that area. Let me know how it goes.

I would try first upgrading to this firmware 4.83. There are compass fixes in there that may resolve the problem. If it is still acting up, then give NK support a call - ask for Joe. He'll figure out what's up if it doesn't fix it after the upgrade. -Nick

What to look for in a Kestrel?

Hey guys - I figured I would jump in... the app that Doc was talking about is now up and running... here's the thread on SH. New firmware - 4.83 is out that allows this to happen...

The 1 degree of incline won't make a difference. You're still in a relatively "flat-fire" condition there. Anything over 10 degrees will start to be noticeable though. I'd recommend not performing calibrations on inclines like that. The greater the angle, the greater the sensitivity your...

I have it running under Linux + Wine and Mac OS + Wine but it won't recognize the com ports running like that unfortunately. The rest of the guns saving and building works though. But the only way I've gotten it to work with the COM ports is through VMWare.

Totally agree w/ Frank here. If you post what your inputs are, I'd be happy to walk you through what your inputs look like. More than likely, something is a little off. One thing to keep in mind is that on the Kestrels (if you are using one), then it has aerodynamic jump calculations built...

    Kestrel and Iphone?

No software mods alone can make this happen.

    Kestrel and Iphone?

A completely new Bluetooth device would need to be selected and the authentication chip added. There is movement toward iOS compatibility through Bluetooth low energy, which is a little different beast. That's why I pointed out specifically above that all of that is in reference to Bluetooth...

    Kestrel and Iphone?

Hey guys, I figured I'd hop in here. I'm not an NK employee, so I can't speak on behalf of NK, but since I do the software on the AB Kestrel, I can give you a bit of the scoop here. LastShot300 actually nailed it in terms of what the issue is... iOS supports various Bluetooth profiles but...

No problem... I posted instructions for VMWare Fusion running Windows 7 on a Mac. In this case, I used my iMac running Win 7 Pro. Here's a link to the PDF: http://www.appliedballisticsllc.com/Software/ABLoader-VMware.pdf It's really no different at all than just running it on Windows. The...

Brian - it won't be available on the iOS or Mac platform. The fundamental reason for lack of iOS support is a hardware issue, not a software one. It is possible to use some of the software though with your Mac via VMWare Fusion w/ Windows or Parallels. I've been able to get the profile...

Group - the target speed and the wind speed are decoupled. As LawnMM points out, it's only on the Ballistics Data page that the lead is displayed.

We have been discussing a version available to the public. There are certain feature sets that are ITAR restricted that may go into the AB Tactical version and thus the reasoning for the limited release. However, we've discussed developing a version for civilians too that is of a different...

Simon55 - you can't upgrade the firmware only. The hardware is different for the Applied Ballistics version of the devices. NK has a trade-in program that can be utilized to give you credit toward a new device.

FN - If you're confident you're getting sufficient air flow over the sensors and not getting extra solar loading that will affect temperature measurements, then you can leave Environment -> Update equal to On. A quick way to test this is to perform the procedure that I recommend and then...
